Attaching the Ground Wire

1 Connect the ground wire to the PDU by inserting the 10-32 x 0.5-inch screw through the eyelet
on the ground wire and then through the star washer, and then attach the screw to the ground wire
connection on the front of the PDU (see Figure 1-6).
NOTE:
Use only the PDU's threaded grounding hole marked with the ground symbol. This hole is at the end
of the PDU next to the inlet connector (see Figure 1-6).
Secure the screw so that the star washer makes tight contact with the bare metal of the PDU case.
NOTE:
A tight connection is required to ensure that the star washer contacts bare metal through the paint
on the PDU case (torque value is approximately 12-16 in-lbs).
2 Connect the free end of the PDU ground wire to the rack frame by inserting the thread-forming screw
through the eyelet on the ground wire and then through the star washer (see Figure 1-7).
CAUTION:
Do not attempt to use any one of the inner four posts of the rack as an attach point for connecting the
ground wire to the rack. When you ground the cable to the rack, ensure that you select an attach point that is one
of the holes located only on the outer members of the rack frame, as shown in Figure 1-7.
Secure the black thread-forming screw to one of the round rack holes on the rack frame so that the star
washer makes tight contact (torque value is approximately 24-30 in-lbs) with the bare metal of the rack
(see Figure 1-7).
NOTE:
A tight connection (torque value of approximately 24-30 in-lbs) is required to ensure that the star
washer contacts bare metal through the paint on the vertical rail of the rack.
