Installing PDUs in the 0-U Mounting Position
The outer vertical rails of Dell 42-U and 24-U racks contain cutouts that allow access to the PDU's back
outlet connectors. When installing a PDU in a rack with these cutouts, position the PDU so that the back
outlet connector is accessible through the cutout (see Figure 1-3).
NOTE:
Not all 0-U vertical-rail mounting positions have a cutout to access the back outlet connectors.
Additionally, only one of the 16-A PDU's back outlet connectors will be accessible through the rail cutout
(see Figure 1-3).
The recommended 0-U mounting position for the 10-A and 12-A power strips, the 16-A PDU, the 30-A
Three-Phase PDU, and the 60-A Single-Phase PDU is on the outer vertical rail at the back of the rack. Up
to six 10-A or 12-A power strips and up to four 16-A PDUs, 30-A Three-Phase PDUs, or 60-A Single-Phase
PDUs can be mounted on each outer vertical rail of a 42-U rack. One 16-A PDU, 30-A Three-Phase PDU,
or 60-A Single-Phase PDU can also be mounted on each of the outer horizontal rails of a 42-U rack. Up to
three 10-A or 12-A power strips and up to two 16-A PDUs, 30-A Three-Phase PDUs, or 60-A Single-Phase
PDUs can be mounted on each outer vertical rail of a 24-U rack. See Figure 1-3 for the 0-U mounting
position options on a 42-U rack.
The recommended 0-U mounting position for 24/32-A, 32-A, and 40-A PDUs is on the outer horizontal rails
of a 42-U rack and on the back vertical rails of a 24-U rack. See Figure 1-3 for the 0-U mounting position
options on a 42-U rack.
To install a PDU in the 0-U space on the side of your rack, perform the following steps:
1 Remove the side panel(s) from the rack.
See the user documentation provided with the rack for instructions on removing the side panels.
2 Identify the location for the PDU in either the vertical or horizontal rail position that is closest
to the systems to which it will supply power.
Ensure that all power cords that you intend to connect to the PDU can reach the PDU position you
have selected.
NOTE:
If you are installing a PDU on the horizontal rail, you must affix the self-adhesive spacing pads to the
back of the PDU in order to ensure a secure fit. Place one spacing pad next to each pair of mounting hooks
(see Figure 1-3).
