TIPS FOR BEST RESULTS
Keep the blades sharp and clean. Refer to Maintaining the
Blades in the Maintenance section.
Keep the blades properly lubricated. Refer to Lubricating the
Blades in the Maintenance section.
To trim new growth, use a wide sweeping motion with a slight
downward tilt of the blade.
To trim old growth with thicker stems, use a sawing motion.
Do not try to cut stems larger than 0.75 inches (1.9 cm) in
diameter. Use a non-powered hand saw or pruning saw to trim
large stems.
Use a string to obtain a level hedge. Stretch a string along the
top of the hedge at the desired height and trim the hedge just
above the level of the string (Fig. 12).
To trim the sides of the hedge, sweep the hedge trimmer upward
from the bottom of the hedge to the top. Trim the sides of the
hedge to be slightly narrower at the top.
Clean up after operation. Dispose of debris appropriately.
Remove the battery from the unit when it is not in use.
WARNING:
DO NOT remove cut material, or hold
material to be cut, while the blades are moving Always
stop the unit and remove the battery before attempting to
remove debris or jammed material. Allow time for moving
parts to stop after turning the unit off. Blades coast for a
short time.
WARNING:
To prevent serious injury, never perform
maintenance on the unit while it is running. Always remove
the battery to prevent the unit from starting accidentally.
Always allow the unit to cool before maintaining the unit.
Before maintaining the battery charger, always unplug it
from the power outlet.
NOTE: Some maintenance procedures may require special tools or
skills. If you are unsure about these procedures, take the unit to
an authorized service dealer.
MAINTAINING THE BATTERY CHARGER
Keep the battery charger clean and clear of debris. Do not allow
foreign material into the charging dock or onto the terminals (Fig.
13). Inspect the battery charger for foreign material before each use.
Make sure the charger has not been shorted by debris. Inspect
the terminals for soot and signs of melting. Do not attempt to
use a shorted charger.
