Computer Configuration
As delivered, the DHCP server is activated in the router. The operating system must be set up
so that an IP address is automatically allocated to the network interface card during start up. In
Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 this function is the default setting.
If a fixed IP address has been assigned to your computer/operating system's network card, you
have to change this in the Windows control panel, otherwise it is not possible to communicate
with the router.
Further, it is important that there is only one DHCP server in the entire network. If you operate
this router and a network hard disk for example, only one DHCP server may be switched on (we
recommend the router's DHCP server is switched on).
The router assigns IP addresses within the range of 192.168.1.x (x=2.....254; in the router the
range of the IP addresses can be set, like e.g. x=20....50; observe the respective settings menu).
The address 192.168.1.1 is reserved for the router. To setup the router, you have to use a
computer that is connected to the router via a network cable (not a computer with WLAN).
Connection of the device as a router
• If you would like to use the router with a DSL connection, connect the „WAN" port to your DSL
modem using a 1:1 network cable (with RJ45 network output); the DSL modem has to be
connected to the splitter.
• If you would like to use the router with a mobile radio connection, connect your USB-UMTS
modem to the USB port of the router (keep in mind that the router tries to establish an Internet
connection immediately in this case). If you have used the router for another method of
connection before, please reset your device first. If you use the UMTS stick for the first time it
might be necessary to configure or to activate it to a computer first.
• Make sure the small slide switch is in the position „Router". Prior to making changes, dis-
connect the device from the mains supply!
• There are four RJ45 network ports available, to each of which one computer can be connected.
Connect one of the network ports with a 1:1 network cable to the connector on the network
interface card. Use an additional switch, if more than 4 computers are to be connected.
• Connect the router to the mains, using the enclosed wall plug transformer (230V~/50Hz). The
router now initiates a self-test; wait for about 30-40 seconds until the test has been completed.
• Switch on your computer, and wait until the operating system has booted completely.

Then click on „OK".
The router's web interface for configuration now appears.
Setting up the router (DSL connection)
The easiest way to setup your DSL connection is to use the Quick-Setup.
To do so, click on the button „Quick Setup". In the next window click on „NEXT" in order to have
the DSL connection detected automatically. This can take up to one minute.
In the ideal case the router detects your connection and presets the „Mode" „PPPoE".
Subsequently, you have to enter your user name (please refer to the section „Special case
T-Online" in the next paragraph) and the password you have obtained from your provider.
Select in the field „Connection Type" whether or not you want the connection to be established
permanently („CONTINUOUS"). In order to save the data, confirm with the „OK" button.
To complete the configuration the router must be restarted using the button „APPLY". As soon
as the router has booted Internet access should be available via a network cable.
Special case T-Online
• Input line „User Name"
Here a long combination of the following data is to be entered:
Line identity + T-Online no. + „#" + secondary user no. + „@t-online.de"
Example: Data of your order confirmation by T-Online:
„Anschlusskennung" (Line identity):
„Zugehˆrige T-Online-Nummer" (Associated T-Online no.): 222222222222
„Mitbenutzernummer/Suffix" (Secondary user no.):
„@t-online.de" MUST BE appended!
Example: 111111111111222222222222#0001@t-online.de
• Input line „Password"
Enter your password as provided by T-Online in their order confirmation („Persˆnliches
Kennwort" - personal keyword).
Setting up the router (UMTS connection)
In the ideal case, with a USB-UMTS modem connected, the router has already established an
Internet connection after the boot process. To check if there is already an Internet connection,
click on „Status" on the configuration page of the router, and then on „Internet Connection". With
an active connection „Connected" is ought to be written under „3G/3.5G Status". Furthermore
the assigned „IP address" as well as the „Subnet Mask" and the „Default Gateway" are dis-
played.
If there is no Internet connection, proceed as follows:
If you have used the router for another method of connection before, please reset your device
first. Otherwise click on „Home" and afterwards on „General Setup". Clicking „WAN" in the left
column opens a menu below where you have to click on „3G/3.5G".
If the PIN prompt is activated on your SIM card you have to enter the PIN into the respective field.
As „Telephone Number" it should read „*99***1#". Alternatively, the number „*99#" can be used.
The field next to „USER ID" and „Password" is supposed to remain empty.
In order to accept the new settings click on „APPLY" and again on „APPLY" in the next window;
this way all settings are saved and the router initiates a restart.
Setting up the router (Advanced configuration)
Whether you are using a DSL or UMTS connection there are further recommended settings. To
configure the following settings you will always have to click on „General Setup" after logging in
the router (entering IP address 192.168.1.1 into the address line of the web browser). To save the
respective settings you will have to confirm them by clicking „APPLY" and subsequently select if
you want the router to be restarted immediately (click „APPLY" again) or if you want to make
further settings („CONTINUE").
You will find a comprehensive manual in English on the enclosed CD. The
description of the settings, etc. might not apply for newer firmware versions. In such
cases, consult the manufacturer's operating manual on the CD.
If you have a „fresh" version of Windows XP (the operating system was reinstalled, or
an Internet connection has not yet been made, or the connection to the Internet was
previously established via an analogue modem or ISDN), proceed as follows, if you
are using Internet Explorer in the operating system, before entering the address
192.168.1.1:
Do NOT enter space characters between the individual segments; you must to enter „t-
online.de" using lower case letters, no upper case letters! The hash symbol might not
be necessary.
