INSTALLATION - DIRECTIONS FOR USE
The NEWA Duetto filter can be placed both vertically and horizontally (fig. 2) depending on the water
level and on the kind of tank. The outlet deflector, completely rotating, allows maximum versatility.
However, it is advisable to place it vertically with the outlet on the water surface so as to create a useful
surface movement and a light bottom current facilitating waste product intake. The suction cups already
mounted on a side of the filter, if necessary, can be removed and transferred to the opposite side using
the central mount at the bottom and opening the two covered upper mounts. To mount the filter simply
press the side with the suction cups against the aquarium glass after cleaning the glass to remove algae
or other residue.
NOTE: Before setting in motion it is advisable to rinse filtering materials in running water.
USAGE AND ADJUSTMENT
FLOW: Flow can be adjusted from minimum to maximum (see technical data). To adjust it, separate the
motor body from the container (fig. 3) and rotate the valve (fig. 4).
AERATION: For a better oxigenation and gas exchange use the aeration device as follows (fig. 5):
Lift the air intake plug. If this is above the water surface, the pump now draws air inside the impeller
chamber and mixes it with water. To obtain air when the intake is under the water surface, use the small
adapter which can be directly linked to the air filter or common airline tubing. The air filter functions also
as an air valve to adjust air volume.
NOTE: The aeration device, when working, causes a reduction of water flow. The volume of air is reduced
when water flow is adjusted towards minimum and/or if the air intake is placed a long way under the
water surface.
INTERCHANGEABLE OUTLET
(fig. 7): The flat output can be removed and replaced by the tube
adapter supplied as standards or by elbows which are commonly found in stores such as:
- elbow Ø 15 and Ø 12,5
- Ø 15 coupling for Ø 12 stiff tubes
- flexible tubes Ø 12 x 16
To remove the flat output rotate it with outlet towards the air intake and lift it by pulling up on the outlet
spout (fig. 6).
MAINTENANCE
MOTOR AND IMPELLER: It may be periodically necessary to clean any deposit. Proceed as follows:
Separate the motor from the container (fig. 3).
Take away the impeller cover (fig. 8).
Remove the
rotor seat and rinse it with warm water.
Replace rotor and cover paying attention that the impeller cover
is replaced by inserting first the narrow side and then the large side (fig. 9).
AERATION DEVICE (fig. 10): If plugging of the air passage hole occurs, clean with the nylon wire which is
supplied or with any thin metal wire.
MECHANICAL PRE-FILTER SCREEN (fig. 11): Periodically rinse the sponge in running warm water to
remove particles and replace it every 6 months or when it is damaged.
CHEMICAL- ADSORBENT CARTRIDGE (carbon and zeolite) (fig. 13):
The unit is mechanically sealed and not refillable. It should be replaced every month, depending on
conditions in the aquarium. Ask for the replacement cartridge from your retailer.
BIOLOGICAL FILTER (fig. 12): The biological filter cartridge must not routinely be removed during the
maintenance of the other parts. This will prevent damage of the bacterial colonies. If it becomes necessary
to clean, rinse it very gently in water from the tank transferred to a small bowl, dispose of the dirty rinse
water. DO NOT RETURN IT TO AQUARIUM. This avoid damage of bacterial colonies due to the chlorine
presente in tap water.
