Safety Instructions
Please read all of the operating instructions before using the product for the
first time; they contain important information about the correct operation. The
warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe these
safety instructions! We do not assume any liability for any consequential
damage!
We do not accept liability for damage to property or personal injury caused by
improper handling or non-compliance with the safety instructions! The
warranty will be null and void in such cases.
• The unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the product is inadmissible
because of safety and approval reasons (CE). Never dismantle the product!
• The design of the wall plug transformer complies with protection class II. As a
voltage source, only a proper power socket connected to the mains supply system
may be used.
• This product is not a toy, and should be kept out of the reach of children. Children
cannot assess the dangers arising from incorrect use of electrical devices. Be
especially careful if children are around.
• Only use in dry indoor locations. The product must be protected from damp and
wet, as there is a risk of a fatal electric shock! Never touch the product with wet
hands!
• Do not expose the product to extreme temperatures (< 0°C or > +40°C), direct
strong sunlight, strong vibrations, high humidity or strong mechanical stress.
• Never use the product immediately after it has been brought from a cold room into
a warm one. Condensation that forms might destroy the device. Furthermore,
there is a danger of an electric shock associated with the wall plug transformer.
Wait until the product reaches room temperature and the condensation has
evaporated. This may take several hours.
Then connect the wall plug transformer with the mains supply and put the product
into operation.
• Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly. It may become a
dangerous plaything for children.
• Handle the product with care, it can be damaged by impacts, blows, or accidental
drops, even from a low height.
Getting Started
• Connect the round low-voltage connector from the wall plug transformer to the appropriate
socket on the USB hub.
• Connect the USB hub's RJ45 connector to your network switch or router, using a 1:1-
connected network cable.
• Connect the wall plug transformer to a mains socket. The power LED on the USB hub lights
up.
Furthermore, the LED "LINK", next to the network jack, should light up and the "ACT" LED
should blink. This indicates a functioning network connection.
• Connect an USB device (e.g. an external USB-hard disk) to the USB port on the USB hub and
turn it on.
• Insert the CD provided in the appropriate drive on your computer. If the installation program
does not start automatically, open the directory of the CD, e.g. with the Windows File Manager,
and start the installation program manually (e.g. "setup.exe" in the main directory of the CD).
Follow all the software instructions. Windows may need to be restarted after completing the
www.conrad.com
installation!
Version 10/10
• There should be a new icon on the desktop, with which the software for the USB hub can be
°
started.
• Now connect your USB device with the USB connection on the USB hub!
• In order to connect the computer to a USB
device, connected to the USB hub, click on the
the "Search" icon and the network is then
searched for available USB hubs.
You can create a connection between the USB
device connected and the computer by clicking
on "Connect" (and a connected USB device is
disconnected by clicking on "Disconnect" and it
then becomes available to other computers in the
network).
Afterwards, the device is available as usual from Windows.
For example, an additional driver letter is automatically assigned to a USB hard disk or a USB
stick in Windows (if necessary, the hardware detection will launch prior to this).
• To set a static IP address, set the option "DHCP Setting" to "Disable" and enter the desired IP
address, so that it matches the IP addresses for you network (e.g. if you use static IP
addresses in the range 192.168.1.x enter 192.168.1.150, as long as "150" is not in use).
The "Subnet-Mask" (e.g. 255.255.255.0 or 255.255.0.0) must be the same for all devices in the
network.
When "Submit" is clicked, it is transferred to the USB hub and saved.
Connection to a USB device
Due to the principle used, only one computer at a time can use the USB devices connected to
the USB hub. The USB hub works the same as if the USB device was connected directly to the
PC.
If another user wants to have access to the device, select the option " Request Remote to dis-
connect" by right-clicking on the USB hub in the software.
Depending on whether you want to connect a printer or another device (e.g. USB
hard disk) to the USB hub, you have to install the appropriate software.
Please note: Connect a USB device to the USB hub first. Otherwise, the device will
not be shown after clicking on "Search".
If you do not have a DHCP server activated (e.g. available in almost all routers), the
software may fail to find the USB hub (connect the USB device first, e.g. a USB stick,
see above!).
In this case, your computer has to be set to IP address 169.254.10.1. Then the USB
hub can be searched for using the software. This has (as long as no DHCP server is
working in the network) the default static IP address 169.254.10.10.
By right-clicking on the USB hub, when it has been recognised by the software (do
not click on a connected device, but directly on the line "USB-Server" with the IP
address), you can select the option "View device webpage". There, the IP address
of the USB hub has to be changed under "Network", in order for it to match your
network (e.g. 192.168.1.x). Please observe that every IP address is only to be
assigned once in the whole network.
After configuring the USB hub, the computer used for the configuration can be reset
to the original IP address.
Please note: When the USB hub has a USB device already connected to it, and is
"connected" to a computer, the configuration cannot be changed. Disconnect, by clicking
on "Disconnect", or unplug the USB device(s) from the USB hub.
The software enclosed has to be installed on every PC that is to have access to the
USB devices connected to the USB hub.
