5. Lifting

• Check whether the Working Load Limit (WLL) and the jaw opening (stamped in the clamp) correspond with the
load that has to be lifted
• Attach the lifting clamp to the hoisting equipment:
– By means of a belt or chain, in combination with a connecting link or D shackle, if necessary
• Make sure all attachment devices are approved and are of the correct tonnage. Make sure all the attachment
links and securing devices are sufficiently large, so that the hook can move freely
• Check that the clamp has no visible damage
• Inspect the clamping blocks for wear and defects. The clamping blocks should not be covered with dirt, oil or
grease; they must be dry and undamaged
• Check the jaw for damage, cracks or deformation (which is indicative of overload)
• Check whether the clamp opens and closes smoothly. If this does not go smoothly, the clamp should be taken
out of operation in order to inspect it
• Remove any dirt and grease from the concrete tube/pit at the locations of the lifting clamp
• Place the jaws completely over the tube/pit and make sure that the clamp is placed in such a way that the load is
balanced during the lift
• Lift calmly so that the lifting force can grip. Check whether the clamp slips or not
• If the load slips, reread this Chapter about lifting
• If the load continues to slip, read then the next Chapter: Chapter 6 – Maintenance
• Make sure the load is stably positioned before the clamp is removed

6. Maintenance

For maximum safety, inspect the lifting clamp at least once a month.
• Do not use the clamp if:
• It is cracked or deformed;
• The plastic coating is damaged or contaminated.
• The gusset is visibly deformed.
• The retaining pins are missing.
• The clamping jaws are damaged or contaminated
• Clamp is difficult to open or close
If any of the above defects are found, see Chapters 7 and 8.

7. Disassembling/Assembling

Disassembling
Important! When disassembling, mark all components in such
a way that they can be remounted in the correct position and
in the right location.
• Lay the pewag BCW/BCW-A clamp on a working bench
• Dismount all nuts and bolts from the clamp
• Dismount the spacer and the retaining pins
• Dismount the small and large hinge pins so that the gusset
and pressure segment become loose
• Dismount the shackle from the clamp
• Clean all parts using a standard degreasing agent.
Assembling
When assembling the clamp, carry out the aforementioned in
reverse order. Always use new check nuts, and perhaps new
bolts and new retaining pins. In case of doubt, consult one of
our technicians. After assembly, the clamp should be tested
on a certified test bench with a test load of 2 x WLL.
The winner KRW 7 coupling ring can be used to connect the
chain and the lever.
