12-42 V DC Control unit
The control unit can be powered with any voltage from 12 to 42 V DC. Each unit is
provided with a dedicated electronic driver (FDC1), which has all of the protections for
both the battery and the driver itself, including the compressor. The mains voltage is
EN
adjusted automatically. The GD30 FDC compressor must always be powered from the
dedicated electronic control unit, FDC1.
Installation
The FDC1 control unit has a terminal strip to which all connections are made. The wiring
layout is shown in the figure:
Power supply
Always respect the battery polarity with the control unit input terminals. The unit is
protected against damaged caused by power supply polarity inversion; the compressor
will not operate properly if incorrectly connected. Also remember to insert a fuse
between the positive pole of the DC supply or the battery and the positive pole of the
electronic control unit. We recommend a 30 A fuse for 12 V DC, 15 A for 24 V DC and
10 A for 42 V DC. In systems powered from a variable DC source , the fuse needs to
be chosen according to the above rules considering the maximum voltage that can
be supplied from the DC feeder. To prevent excessive voltage drops along the wiring,
the length and cross section needs to be related to the power voltage as listed in the
table:
If any type of breaker or connector is inserted between the poles of the battery and the
control unit terminals, the resistance must not exceed 10mΩ; otherwise the wiring in
the table listed above will have to be halved in length or the cross-section doubled.
Battery protection
The control unit has a battery protection system to prevent the compressor from operating
if the voltage is too low. The battery protection level needs to be set as follows:
