Starting up the filter
Connect the filter to the mains. The extra wide and flat water outlet ensures a gentle
and wide water current, which creates good water circulation without a loss of the
important plant nutrient CO
Note: Should you replace an existing aquarium filter with a JBL CristalProfi m Mat
Filter, we recommend running both filters, the new and the old, parallel in the same
aquarium for the first 2 weeks before dismantling the "old" filter. This ensures that the
new filter has a sufficiently large colony of cleansing bacteria and avoids harmful
nitrites occurring in the transitional phase.
Maintenance and care
The JBL CristalProfi m Mat Filter is equipped with a foam pad (8) of 35 ppi pore size.
This means on the one hand that it is fine enough to provide optimal conditions for
shrimps, young fish and other animals to graze bacterial lawn etc. On the other hand
its large surface prevents it from clogging quickly, so that the flow through the pad
is maintained despite its longer service life, and the beneficial purifying bacteria can
continue to work without disturbance.
Caution: Regular maintenance and cleaning of the filters is vital to prevent a reduction
in the pump capacity.
Cleaning or replacement of the FilterPads
Unplug the filter before any work is carried out on it!
Unlock the suction cup of the filter by turning the locking lever (3a) to the position
"unlocked". Attach the service cover (9) with both retaining lugs located on the inside
of the cover onto the lower edge of the frame (7a). Keep the service cover pressed
against the filter, lift the complete filter vertically out of the aquarium and
wait until all the water has drained from the bottom valve.
Remove the FilterPad as described in (1) and rinse it thoroughly under running water.
Rule of thumb: When the water is only slightly brownish after squeezing the pad, the
cleaning procedure is completed.
Cleaning and replacement intervals of the FilterPads
The FilterPads of the CristalProfi m Mat Filter allow a long service life with little
reduction in flow. Cleaning is required every 2-4 months approx. (even longer with
a small fish stock). Replace the pads after cleaning 3 till 5 times depending on the
condition. For filters with several extension modules, only clean or replace one half of
them at alternate intervals.
