2 Introduction

Hybrid installation

If the propulsion unit consists of both an
electric motor and a diesel engine then the
term hybrid installation is used.
The diesel engine of a hybrid installation may
not be of unlimited size, since the torque
must be transmitted to the propeller shaft via
the electric motor shaft.
The maximum torque that the electric motor
shaft may transmit is 80 Nm.
The maximum engine power is dependent on
the reduction of the gearbox and the revolu-
tions at which the engine delivers its maxi-
mum power.
