This smoke alarm generates an acoustic
signal of >85dB(A) at a distance of 3 metres.
Ensure that the signal is sufficiently strong
to be heard in sleeping areas. The volume
is lower the further away the signal. It is
also lower if there are objects in the way or
other factors (such as walls, curtains, built-in
insulation, etc). The radio signal of the
sensor is highly dependent on environmental
conditions. Metal objects, concrete surfaces,
walls, metallic wiring, etc. can also reduce
its range. The device can also be impaired
by other radio signals and environmental
influences. Find out about the fire prevention
regulations in force and the rules for the
use of smoke alarms (e.g. Law EN14676 –
"Installation, operation and maintenance of
smoke alarms for residences, flats and rooms
used as dwellings").
Selecting the right location
to install the alarm
We recommend installing at least one alarm
(depending on the size of the room) in all
escape routes, staircases, sitting rooms,
bedrooms, offices and children's rooms.
Heat can sometimes produce a so-called
"heat cushion" (e.g. in corners, narrow
places, under sloping ceilings, etc.) which
then spreads out and prevents smoke from
rising. This means that on occasion smoke
does not enter the measuring chamber in the
smoke alarm, so the alarm is not set off.
For this reason the following instructions
must be adhered to:
• Always install the smoke alarm
• On the ceiling
• as close to the centre of the room
as possible
• at least 50 cm from each wall, object, etc.
• not under a pointed ceiling, where a heat
cushion can build up; at least 50 cm
lower down

• away from air-conditioning units and
ventilation shafts.
• in staircases on the top floor
• at least one on each floor
• only in rooms with temperatures within
the specified range of the device
Note that for the radio transmission to work,
it is necessary to do the following:
• Avoid installing the device near metal
constructions
• Other radio transmitters
Incorrect installation locations
Do not install the alarm
• on sloping ceilings
• in corners
• outdoors
• in "dead" areas, such as between
the wall and ceiling
• near ventilation shafts, fans,
air-conditioning units, etc.
• in dusty rooms
• wherever chemicals, solvents, steam
(e.g, bathrooms, kitchens), exhaust fumes
(e.g: chimneys or ovens) or smoke
(e.g. ashtrays, smoking areas) may occur.
Deposits may enter the measuring
chamber or there may be reactions which
may cause the device to malfunction.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The alarm can
only work as well as permitted by its
installation and environment. The alarm
can indicate dangerous situations but it
cannot prevent them.
The device must not be painted, varnished or
altered in any way.
