Before using for the first time
- Before the appliance is used for the first
time, all its parts (except the base) should
be thoroughly cleaned using hot water
and a little detergent. To prevent any
remaining water from mixing with the oil
or fat, ensure that all parts are thoroughly
dried.
- Before the first use, let the hot-plate with
the wok pan on it heat up for max. 10
minutes at maximum power with a little
oil or fat. This will help to 'burn in' the
protective coating. A little smoke may
result; this is normal and will only last for
a very short time. Ensure sufficient
ventilation.
General information
Cooking with a wok is a typically Asian way
of preparing food. Its main feature is the
relatively short cooking time, ensuring that
the cooked food keeps its flavour. All
ingredients should be cut into small, bite-
sized pieces. Do not use butter, margarine or
olive oil in the wok, as cooking temperatures
are extremely high. Frying or vegetable oils
are best suited for cooking with a wok.
Temperature control
The temperature can be set by means of the
temperature control. The maximum setting
is suitable for searing or gentle roasting. The
medium setting is suitable for braising and
stewing, while a low setting will simply keep
the food warm.
Operation
- The base is activated when the appliance
is connected to the mains.
- Pour a little oil suitable for very high
temperatures (e.g. sunflower oil) into the
wok pan and spread evenly.
- Place the pan centrally of the base hot-
plate and insert the plug into a suitable
wall socket. Set the temperature control
to the required level.
- If required, the storage rack can be fitted
to the rim of the wok pan by means of
the hooks. The rack may be used for
temporary storage of items that have
already been cooked.
- Once the oil is sufficiently hot, put a small
amount of the bite-sized food into the
centre of the pan.
- Always start with those ingredients which
require a longer cooking time, such as
meat.
- Keep turning the food over; once food is
sufficiently cooked on the outside, it
should be moved to the side of the pan.
- Other ingredients such as vegetables
should always be placed right in the
centre of the pan.
- It is important to cook only small
quantities at a time and not to over-fill
the pan.
- Always remove the plug from the wall
socket after use in order to switch off the
base. Caution: The bottom of the pan as
well as the hot-plate will remain very hot
for some time.
