Installation

Important pre-installation information:
Required for operation:
Standard pumps for ponds or circulation pumps for aquariums with a means for a hose con-
nection.
CAUTION: This appliance contains glass! Please exercise the necessary caution.
This appliance does not tolerate frost and must be dismantled, cleaned and stored WIT-
HOUT water and frost-free during the winter before freezing temperatures occur.
UV-C water clarifiers are generally installed at the water outlet of the pump. Hence, when the
appliance is used in an aquarium, it is usually positioned such that the water flows through it
after flowing through the filter, whereas, in the pond, it is positioned before the filter. Ponds
that have just been set up should be operated without a UV-C water clarifier for 6 - 8 weeks
so that sufficient beneficial cleansing bacteria can settle in the filter. Inoculating the filter
media with JBL Filterstart Pond promotes rapid biological activity of the filter and reduces
the starting time.
Note on operational safety and function checks:
For your own safety, a safety switch is integrated into the electric unit (4), which only allows
the UV-C lamp to operate when the casing is closed. Never attempt to check whether lamp
function by pressing the safety switch when the electric unit is open! This may result in dam-
age to the eyes and skin.


Unpacking and preparation

Carefully take the JBL AquaCristal UV-C Water Clarifier out of the packaging, remove the
transport protection and check the contents for completeness. Please contact your specialist
shop if the contents are incomplete or damaged.
Please verify that the voltage stated on the type plate of the electric unit (4) corresponds to
the voltage to be used.
Push both pedestals (2) onto the guides on the underside of the casing (1) until the locking
tabs have engaged.
1 a) Inserting the UV-C fluorescent bulbs
Consult a qualified person who is familiar with the hazards of unintentionally released
UV-C radiation. (See the separate instruction "for the specialist")
Saw the enclosed stepped hose nozzles (10, 11) off to the desired hose diameter. The O-rings
(12) can be lubricated with some Vaseline if necessary. Mount the tails incl. the O-rings and
flat seals (13). Tighten the union nuts (14) by hand only. Do not use any tools.
