3.2.2 Use as a cleaning tool
• Before use, it is recommended that you give
your floor a quick initial cleaning and remove any
waste that may be lying on the surface.
• Attach the machine to a power supply.
• Push the power safety switches towards the
middle of the grip and pull the two start levers,
one on each side of the grip, towards you. This
will start the motor and you may begin operating
the machine.
• Press the handle downwards so that the ma-
chine is positioned at a slant.
• If, during operation, you push the handle down
further, the machine will move towards the left.
If you raise the handle again, the machine will
move towards the right. Hold the handle in the
middle position to keep the machine operating
in one spot.
Lowering the handle/ push rod = MOVEMENT TO
THE LEFT
Raising the handle/ push rod = MOVEMENT TO
THE RIGHT
• The cleaning liquid supply can be regulated
by pulling upwards on the lever located on the
water tank.
• Allow some cleaning liquid to flow onto the
floor before beginning your cleaning job. Guide
the machine over the liquid, moving it in a spiral
pattern.
• Where possible, remove dirty cleaning foam
from the floor quickly.
• When the start levers underneath the handles
are released, the machine stops operating
immediately.
• To transport the machine once it is switched
off, move the push rod into a vertical position
until it locks into place.
• Tip the machine backwards slightly until it is
sitting on its wheels.
• Remove and clean the brush after each use.
Store the machine in a dry place and at normal
room temperature (never lower than 0 °C).

Fitting a water tank to the ESM 406
• There are two hooks located on the push rod
that are designed both for holding a coiled up
power cord and for attaching a water tank. To fit
the water tank, first loosen the upper bracket us-
ing an Allen key. Now you can hook the retaining
clasp on the underside of the water tank into the
corresponding openings on the lower bracket.
• Hold the water tank in such a way that the
clasp on top of the tank is directly under the
opening of the upper bracket. Now the bracket
can be pushed downwards until the retaining
clasp is locked into place in the bracket. Tighten
the screws once more. Finally, attach the water
hose to the nozzle on the brush cover.
• By carefully loosening and moving the tank,
it can be shifted into a position where the
activation lever for the tank water valve is within
comfortable reach. Once you have done this, be
sure to retighten the retaining screws.
3.2.3 Safety instructions for cleaning tasks
• This machine is not suitable for cleaning sur-
faces that are covered in toxic liquids or dirt. Do
not use the machine on stairs.
• This machine is only suitable for indoor use
and should not be used on roads.
• Always check that floor coatings are suitable
for cleaning with this machine.
• Exercise particular caution in places with
pressed area-elastic flooring, for example in
sports halls.
• Always check before starting the machine that
all components are in good operating order.
• When treating wet flooring, never use attach-
ments that are designed only for dry applica-

• Never attempt to lift the machine by its start/
safety switches.
• Using driving discs and brushes other than
those intended for use with this machine can
lead to an increased safety risk.
4. Storage
The machine must never be exposed to wet
or damp conditions. The power cable must be
disconnected from the power supply before the
machine is put in storage.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Care and maintenance
IMPORTANT: ENSURE THAT THE PLUG HAS BEEN
REMOVED FROM THE POWER SOCKET BEFORE
SERVICING THE MACHINE!
• Keep the machine clean by regularly wiping it
down with a damp cloth.
• Keep the driving discs and brushes in good
condition.
• Immediately replace worn or damaged ma-
chine parts and always ensure that the power
cable is undamaged before you switch on the
machine.
• Remove the brush and the pad holder after
each use. Clean these parts and store them in a
dry place.
5.2 Troubleshooting
Problem
The machine does not operate.
The disc is skipping.
The machine makes unusual noises.
Possible cause
1. Check that the plug is plugged into the power
socket.
2. There may be no current running through the
plug. Check the plug fuse and the start/safety
switches for damage.
1. You may have used the brush without using a
moist cleaning agent.
2. Check that the driving disc or brush is in the
correct position. Attach the driving disc or
brush correctly.
The screws on the chassis may be loose and need
to be re-tightened.
