Service life
The step stool is a piece of equipment that can be used for a long
time if used as intended and maintained on a regular basis.

Packaging and disposal
WARNING
Risk of suffocation!
Packaging material is not a toy. Improper handling poses a risk of
suffocation.

When the step stool is no longer fit for use, it is to be
disposed of in accordance with current legislation and
regulations in the country of use.
•
The step stool must not be disposed of with domestic
waste.
•
All components, incl. packaging, must be separated
appropriately.
•

10. Checklist
•
Any damaged, defective or non-functional elements of the
step stool put the user at risk of a fall; there is also a risk
that the step stool could overturn during use.
•
Users of the step stool may incur serious injury from a fall.
•
Similarly, objects may be damaged if the step stool
overturns.
•
If the step stool is used for commercial purposes, a regular
check by a competent person is required (occupational
health and safety legislation).
•
The contractor must ensure that step stools are checked on
a regular basis to ensure that they are in full working order
(visual inspection and function test). The nature, scope and
dates of the necessary tests must be defined for this
purpose.
•
Testing intervals depend on operating conditions and in
particular on the frequency of use, the stress imposed
during use and the frequency and severity of any defects
that have been identified in previous tests.
•
The contractor must also ensure that defective step stools
are withdrawn from use and stored in such a way that they
can no longer be used until they are duly repaired or
disposed of.
Consideration must be given to points 1 to 5 during regular
inspections of the step stool. If any of these points leads to an
unsatisfactory test result, the step stool must NOT be used.

General points for testing
Are there any signs of contamination (e.g. dirt, mud, paint, oil
or grease) on the step stool? All fastenings (rivets, screws, bolts
etc.) must be present and correct. Are any fastenings loose or
corroded?
2.
Legs, steps
Are any legs or reinforcing struts bent, crooked, twisted, dented,
cracked, corroded or rotten? The legs must be located at the
fixing points for other parts and must be in good condition. The
full number of steps must be present. Are any steps worn, loose,
corroded or damaged?
3.
Joints, fittings
Check for functionality, stability and completeness as well as
damage and corrosion. Are any joints or fittings damaged, loose
or corroded?
4.
Feet
Check feet for stability as well as damage and corrosion. All feet
must be present. Are the feet loose, worn or corroded?
5.
Markings
Are all the markings present and clearly legible?
