Use of the mounting and wiring instructions
Target group: authorised and qualified staff.
All actions described in these mounting and wiring instructions may
only be performed by qualified persons who have been trained and au-
thorised by the operating company. Do not install or operate this de-
vice until you have read and understood the mounting and wiring in-
structions and are familiar with the valid occupational safety and acci-
dent prevention regulations. Selection and installation of devices and
their integration in control systems demand qualified knowledge of
all the relevant laws, as well as the normative requirements of the
machine manufacturer.
In case of doubt, the German language version of these instructions
shall prevail.
Scope of delivery
1 device, 1 mounting and wiring instructions, 1 carton.
Destination and use
The safety relay module SRM 21 Multi is used for two-channel emer-
gency-stop or guard door applications, two hand control circuits, as
safety controller for light curtains, light barriers and pulsed safety
switches. Maximum two NC contacts can be connected.
Mounting / Wiring
The activation and input contacts need to be wired according to the in-
tended purpose. The activation outputs S11 and S21 of the device are
short-circuit-proof. The output signals are clocked and inde-pendently
monitored by the internal controllers. At inactive state only the Power
LED is lit - the safety outputs are open. The activation of the safety in-
puts is signalized by the LEDs IN1 and IN2. After starting, the LEDs
CH1 and CH2 are lit - the safety outputs 13-14 and 23-24 are closed. In
the case of a malfunction the Fault LED is lit. Carry out the wiring ac-
cording to the chosen application. You will find different application ex-
amples in this manual. Adequate fuse protection must be provided on
all output contacts with capacitive and inductive loads. The safety relay
should be tested in a defined time period, at least every six months or
after each check of the plant.
Notices
The electrical connection may only be carried out by authorised per-
sonnel. In the case of an error message the device can only be started
again with a separation from the power supply (Reset). Reconstruction
and alterations at the device are not allowed. The described products
have been developed in order to assume safety functions as a part of
an entire plant or machine. A complete safety system normally covers
sensors, monitoring modules, indicator switches and concepts for safe
disconnection. For the integration of the device into the entire system,
the control category determined in the risk assessment must be strict-
ly observed and respected. Therefore, a validation according to DIN EN
ISO 13849-2 or DIN EN 62061 is necessary. Furthermore, the Perfor-
mance Level according to DIN EN ISO 13849-1 and SIL CL Level ac-
cording to DIN EN 62061 can be lower than the single level because of
the combination of several safety components and other safety-relat-
ed devices, e.g. by serial connection of sensors. The responsibility
taken by the manufacturer of a plant or machine implies to secure the
correct general function. steute does not assume any liability for rec-
ommendations made or implied by this description. Subject to techni-
cal modifications. From this description new claims for guarantee,
warranty or liability cannot be derived beyond the general terms and
conditions of delivery.
