Use on scaffolding: Both versions are suitable for use on
scaffolding (table on page 6, line 11)
The 2.5 m version is specified for use on scaffolding only. In this
scenario, the anchor point must be at least 1 m above the work level/
standing area, which corresponds to the height of the guard rail.
4.) Use
4.1) Prior to using the device, a functionality test must be carried out.
When doing so, first of all inspect the unit, including the full length of
the retractable lifeline (s).
Also ensure that the the lifelines pull out and retract easily. To test how
effective it is in locking, vigorously pull the line two to three times to
make sure that the device locks. Should you find any type of fault, the
device must be withdrawn from use immediately and destroyed.
Never allow uncontrolled retraction of the carabiner as this can
damage the recoil spring.
4.2) Do not adjust the length in an area where there is a risk of falling.
4.3) Pay attention to the total length of the lanyard connected to the
HSG Compact (including the terminations and connectors).
4.4) The maximum force on the structure in the event of a fall is 6 kN.
4.5) Avoid any slack.
4.6) Wherever possible, the anchor point must be perpendicular to
the working position. If the anchor point is below the work area, there
is the danger of hitting structures lower down in the event of a fall. If
the anchor point is at the side, there is the danger of hitting structures
at the side.
4.7 - 4.8) Be aware of loose beam ends.
4.9) Always properly lock the carabiner.
4.10) Do not knot the suspension element.
4.11) Do not use in a choke hitch.
4.12) - 4.13) Locking carabiners and/or connectors must always be
protected against cross-loading and bending under a load.
4.14 - 4.15) The device must only be used when the fall indicator is
not visible i.e. has not been activated through a fall.
Height of anchor point and necessary system effectiveness (see fig. 2):
Calculation of fall clearance (see fig. 2)
+ Original length of the lanyard (cf. l, fig. 4)
+ Height of the user (cf. x, fig. 2)
+ Safety margin (approx. 1 m, cf. fig. 2)
+ Elongation of anchorage system (e.g. EN 795 B/C, cf.
manufacturer's user instructions).
Do not use the HSG Compact as a work positioning lanyard, i.e. do
not hold onto it or pull yourself up on it.
Calculation of fall clearance for elevating work platforms (see figure 3).
