FAULT FINDING YOUR FENCE
Note: The current fl ow on the fence will vary depending
on the size of your Energizer, any vegeta on and the size of
our fence network. With me you will learn normal current
fl ow on your fence. To obtain the best results from your
Fault Finder, Gallagher recommends that you check the
current while the fence is opera ng without any faults. Then,
when you suspect there is a fault on the fence line, you can
compare the current fl ow with the "normal" current fl ow.
This will indicate whether a fault exists and, if so, how much
the fault is aff ec ng the performance of the fence.
1. The Arrow on the LCD will indicate which direc on the
current is fl owing.
2. Following the direc on of
the current, take readings
approx. every 50 - 100m or
at junc on points along your
fence line.
Note: At a junc on point,
follow the wire with the
highest current fl ow.
3. A fault is indicated by a drop in current fl ow between two
checkpoints. The fault will be somewhere between the
two checkpoints.
Note: The arrow will s ll point in the direc on of the
current fl ow if greater than 1A.
4. To narrow down loca on of the fault, work back along the
fence checking the current fl ow at shorter intervals.
5. Correct the fault.
6. A er correc ng the fault you should see the current
reading drop and the voltage go up. If not, check for
further faults.
Handy Hint: Mul -wire fences connected in parallel
will have similar current fl owing in each wire. To get the
total fence current fl ow, add together the current fl ow
in each wire.
