This service manual contains the operating and maintenance
instructions for the Live Tooling you have purchased.
SMW-Autoblok reserves the right to make changes without
notice.
This service manual may not be – in whole or in part – copied or
duplicated without our written permission.
This manual is part of the Live Tool and must be supplied to the
new user in case of sale.
Please read this service manual carefully before
installation and use and always follow the
regulations.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
CAUTION: please always follow the recommendations included
inthis manual.
SMW Autoblok is not responsible for damage to property or injury
caused by failure to observe the safety precautions in this service
manual.
During the machining operations, all personnel should wear per-
sonnel protective clothing including safety glasses and safety
shoes. Operating and service personnel should observe all appli-
cable environmental and safety standards when operating and
maintaining SMW Autoblok live tools.
Do not use the live tools for purposes different from those for
which they have been designed and manufactured.
Do not stop the LT by touching or holding the tool. Never
touch or hold any moving or rotating part of the tool.
Do not clean, grease or make any kind of maintenance ope-
ration during operation or rotation of the Live Tool.

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
SMW Autoblok Live Tooling has been designed and manufactured
to carry out drilling, boring, tapping and milling operations

FORBIDDEN USE
SMW Autoblok Live Tooling may not be used in any operation not
described above or which exceeds the physical capabilities of the
live tool (refer to the inspection report for the mechanical character-
istics and technical features).
Any use of SMW Autoblok live tooling different from those the
Live Tooling have been designed and manufactured for, is forbid-
den.
SMW Autoblok is not responsible for damage to property or injury
caused by improper use of live tools.

USE AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
General safety instructions

1. Correct use
SMW-Autoblok Live Tooling work safely and trouble-free
if they are used according to their specification, i.e.

milling, drilling and tapping within the mechanical limits of
the live tool. Any other use can cause hazards.

2. Personnel
Live Tools must be installed, operated and maintained
only by qualified and regularly trained personnel.

During the machining process, the Live Tool must be in a
closed and protected area, in order to protect personnel

from the high-speed release of any rotating part.
Maintenance and actuation of the Live Tool must be per-
formed only when the machine spindle is stopped!

4. Maintenance
Live Tools must be maintained according to their specifi-
cation. Check the general operating conditions frequent-

ly. In case of broken parts, replace them with the original
SMW-Autoblok spare parts only!
Any maintenance and inspection must be carried out only
when the machine spindle is stopped!

PACKING
2.1
RECEIVING/UNPACKING
The package of our Live Tooling includes, in addition to the live tool:
- customer drawing of live tool
- test/inspection report
- instruction manual
- tube of grease containing 100 gr. of special grease K67 for the
bevel gear lubrication (angular tools, tilting tools, straight tools with
offset only).
Please contact your nearest SMW Autoblok office if any of the items
listed above are missing from the live tool package.
If the Live Tool is damaged or does not correspond to your order,
please do not use it and notify SMW Autoblok immediately.
Please observe all environmental standards when disposing of the
live tooling packaging.
2.2
LONG TERM STORAGE
If you store a Live Tool for 30 days (1 week for the models with cen-
tral passage for coolant) or longer, please follow these recommen-
dations:
- clean the Live Tool carefully, removing all dirt and chips;
- protect the ground areas with a grease film and/or anti-corrosion
fluids;
- store in a clean and dry location at a temperature between +20°
and +100° F;
- protect the Live Tool from dust and dirt
If you store the live tool for more than 6 months, we recommend
replacing the grease before using the tool.
- clean the coolant tubes.
For the Live Tooling with coolant thru: first insert compressed air
into the feeling holes, to eliminate working traces inside, then intro-
duce ISO G68 oil to avoid seals dryness.
