19. START-UP
- Plug the power cable into the mains.
19.1 OPERATOR POSITION (FIG. 13)
- The operator must stand in front of the machine and
maintain a position that allows him to grip the arm correctly
and adjust the vice.
20. CHECKING THE GRINDING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
Wear personal protection equipment when
carrying out these jobs.
When checking the assembly of the grinding wheel,
make sure no other person stands near the machine.
- Start the machine by holding the operating switch down for
1-2 seconds and make sure the grinding wheel does not
move sideways or crosswise during the slowdown phase,
which could cause abnormal vibrations. If this occurs, do
not start the machine again but make sure the grinding
wheel has been assembled correctly. If necessary, replace
the grinding wheel with another original one.
- Operate the machine again holding the operating switch
down for 30 seconds. Stand at the side of the rotation
surface of the grinding wheel and visually make sure the
grinding wheel does not move sideways or crosswise,
which could cause abnormal vibrations. If this occurs, stop
the machine immediately and make sure the grinding wheel
has been assembled correctly. If necessary, replace the
grinding wheel with another original one.
Each time a grinding wheel is fitted, follow the
instructions given in the section entitled FITTING
THE GRINDING WHEEL
21. ADJUSTING THE GRINDER
21.1 SHARPENING ANGLES
- Once you have established the type of chain to be
sharpened, look-up the vise adjustment angle in the chain
chart (column C).
21.2 SETTING THE TOP SHARPENING
RH
Cutter
ANGLE (FIG. 14-15)
- Loosen the knob M16.
- Turn the vise clockwise.
- Position the reference notch on the vise
by the desired angle.
- Tighten knob M16 again.
21.3 SETTING THE TOP SHARPENING
LH
ANGLE (FIG. 14-16)
Cutter
- Loosen the knob M16.
- Turn the vise counter clockwise.
- Position the reference notch on the vise
by the desired angle.
- Tighten knob M16 again.
EN
21.4 SETTING THE CHAIN BLOCKING UNIT (FIG. 17)
- Put the chain in the vise.
- Take the cutter up against the chain blocking device A18.
- Run the pin P18 in its seat to position the blocking unit A18
correctly compared to the cutter.
21.5 POSITIONING THE CUTTER (FIG. 17)
- Move the grinding wheel onto the cutter to be sharpened
by pulling the arm downwards.
- Turn the knob P18a to move the chain so that the cutter
cutting edge skims the grinding wheel. The chain should
run freely over the vise throughout this procedure but
without any play.
- At this stage, raise the arm and screw the knob P18a, to
move the cutter to be sharpened further forwards.
This forward movement corresponds to the quantity of
material to be ground from the cutter.
Blunter are the cutters, greater must be this forward
movement. Vice versa, for cutters that are not too blunt,
simply grind just a slight amount of material.
- Turn knob P18b to adjust the cutter sharpening depth.
The grinding wheel should skim the bottom of the cutter
vertically.
- Once you have found the exact position of the cutter,
tighten the chain blocking handle M19.
22. SHARPENING WARNINGS
Wear personal protection equipment when
sharpening.
- All adjustments must be made with the motor
switched off and the grinding wheel completely
stopped.
- In the case of accidental impact or collision of
the wheel during the sharpening process, follow
the instructions given in the "GRINDING WHEEL
WARNINGS" section.
- It is recommended to clean the chain before sharpening it.
- To avoid overloading the motor excessively and to avoid
damaging the chain cutters, grind minimum quantities of
material and do not stop along the same cutter as this
could burn the cutting edge.
- Sharpen all the cutters on the same side and then adjust
the vise as explained in the previous sections, then sharpen
the cutters on the opposite side.
- Do not use cooling liquids during the sharpening process.
23. SHARPENING THE CHAIN (FIG. 18)
- Make sure the vise blocking handle M19 is screwed tight
and the chain is blocked.
- Turn the machine on using the operating switch I19 and
hold it down then sharpen the cutter by lowering the arm-
motor unit.
- Once you have sharpened the chain, raise the arm, release
the switch and loosen the handle M19.
- Run the chain forward to position the next cutter to be
sharpened.
- Block again with the handle M19 and sharpen.
