INTRODUCTION
The Vicair
Academy Replacement Mattress 415 is designed for patients who have a
®
highly increased risk of decubitus, and for patients who have Stage I-IV decubitus but
are relatively mobile. Please read the whole manual before use.
For a schematic display of the mattress, see the cut-away view A and figures B and C.
Inner mattress
The inner mattress is made of compartments (fig. A-1). Each compartment is filled
with a specific number of triangular, air filled SmartCells™ which allow optimum
pressure distribution. To reduce shear forces, a layer of smooth fabric (fig. A-2) is
fitted over the mattress.
A foam layer is incorporated in the base of the mattress for extra stability. The
compartments can be accessed from the underside through zippers (fig. B).
Outer cover
The outer cover (fig. A-3) is made of low-friction waterproof material. The cover fits
loosely over the inner mattress, to prevent "hammocking" and to allow sufficient
immersion into the mattress. Always use the mattress with the outer cover in place.
Head and foot end
The mattress has a head end and a foot end, indicated by a label (fig. A-4) and
pictograms on the cover.
Information panel
A zippered pouch at the foot end contains an information panel, showing the mattress
type and important user information (fig. C). This is especially useful for institutional
use.
Carrying handles
Each side of the mattress is fitted with carrying handles, which are strong enough to
enable an emergency evacuation with a patient on the mattress.
Fixation rings and buckles
The corners of the mattress are fitted with double rings for loosely attaching the bed
sheet. Two buckles are fitted on the head side to connect an extension piece.
