Installation
There are two Cat.5 FireWire Extender units supplied, both units can act as either the
transmitter or receiver.
1. Connect one of the FireWire Cat.5 Extender units to the local device using a standard
FireWire 800 cable, or using one of the supplied FireWire 800 6 Pin to 9 Pin adapter cables,
according to the available port on your device.
2. Attach the supplied Power Adapter (9V, 0.3A) to the other FireWire Cat.5 Extender unit,
which will be used at the remote end of the cable.
3. Connect one end of a Cat.5e or Cat.6 cable, up to 75m in length, to the cross-over adapter
and the other end to the remote Cat.5 FireWire Extender unit.
4. Connect the cross-over adapter to the local Cat.5 FireWire Extender unit.

5. Check that the LED indicator on both the host and remote Cat.5 FireWire Extender units are
illuminated solid green. If the indicators are not lit at all then please check each connection.
If the indicators are dimly lit, or flickering it is necessary to reduce the Cat.5e/6 cable length.
6. Using a standard FireWire 800 cable, or using the remaining supplied FireWire 800 6 Pin to
9 Pin adapter cable, according to the available port on your FireWire device, connect the
remote Cat.5 FireWire Extender unit to your FireWire Device.
7. Operate the FireWire Device in the same way as if it was directly connected to your
computer.
