It is recommended that the mattress is checked (foam and cover)
for strike-through (this may include fluid ingress, stains, rips or
damage) after the release of each patient or on a minimum monthly
basis (depending on which occurs first) by a suitably qualified and
competent person.
IMPORTANT!
It is recommended that internal and external parts of
the mattress be inspected at least every 3 months for
damage and wear.
Check mattress

WARNING!
Risk Of Injury Or Damage
To avoid infectious exposure:
– Do not clean the bed when the patient is occupying
the bed.
– Inspect all equipment. Properly clean or remove any
item soiled with the patient's blood or other body
fluids.
– Treat all soiled bedding as if it is contaminated with
pathogenic microorganisms.
CAUTION!
Iodophor type disinfectants (Betadine®, etc.) are not
recommended and will stain fabrics.
– To avoid fabric breakdown and loss of waterproofing,
use only these types of properly diluted standard
cleaning solutions (Quaternary wipe down, Phenolic
wipe down or 8 – 10 % bleach/water wipe down).
IMPORTANT!
All cleaning agents and disinfectants used must be
effective, compatible with one another and must protect
the materials they are used to clean.
– For further information on decontamination in health
care environments, please refer to 'The National
Institute for Clinical Excellence' guidelines on Infection
Control www.nice.org.uk/CG002 and your local
infection control policy.
