2 Safety
This section provides key information on the safe operation of the product. Before using the system for the
first time, please read it carefully and make sure that all users are familiar with its contents.
• Before using the system for the first time, please read these operating instructions carefully. They provide
you with all the information you need for safe, fault-free operation.
• Read and observe the operating instructions before carrying out specific work such as commissioning,
operation, transport and maintenance.
2.1 Designated use
• The device described in these instructions may be used only for the purpose and in the manner
described in these instructions. In doing so, observe the operating, maintenance and servicing
conditions.
• Any other use is considered improper.
• Unauthorized modifications or changes to increase the performance are not permitted.
2.2 Obligations of the operator
• Store the operating instructions within easy reach of the device for reference and enclose them when
passing on the product.
• Commissioning, operating and maintenance work may only be carried out by qualified personnel.
Qualified personnel are persons who have received the necessary specialist training, knowledge and
experience to assess the tasks assigned to them and identify possible dangers
(in Germany see TRBS 1203).
• Keep other persons out of the work area.
• Please observe the accident prevention regulations of the country in question.
• Ensure the work area is well lit and keep it clean.
Observe the following standards and guidelines in particular:
• 89/391/EEC: Introduction of measures to encourage improvements in the safety and health of workers
at work.
• 89/655/EEC: Minimum safety and health requirements for the use of work equipment by workers at
work.
• DIN EN 60974-2: Arc welding equipment, Part 2: Liquid cooling systems
• DIN EN 60974-4: Arc welding equipment, Part 4: Periodic inspection and checking
• DIN EN 60974-9: Arc welding equipment, Part 9: Installation and use
• DIN EN 60974-10: Arc welding equipment, Part 10: Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements
• Occupational health and safety regulations of the country in question. For example, Germany:
Arbeitsschutzgesetz (Occupational Health and Safety Act) and Betriebssicherheitsverordnung
(Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health)
• Regulations on occupational safety.
• According to DIN EN 60974-10, this device is considered class A welding equipment. Class A welding
equipment is not intended for use in residential areas powered by a public low-voltage grid. Such use
can cause electromagnetic interferences that may result in machine damage and malfunctions. Use the
device only in commercial and industrial areas.
2.3 Personal protective equipment (PPE)
• To avoid danger to the user, these instructions recommend the use of personal protective equipment
(PPE). This consists of protective clothing, safety goggles, a class P3 respiratory mask, protective gloves
and safety shoes.
