engine to work on it. Alternatively, remove relevant injector and connect an air line via
an appropriate adaptor to aperture, to ensure dirt and swarf do not enter combustion
chamber as procedure is carried out. Ensure adequate eye protection is worn when clea
ning any swarf away from engine.

glow plug; it may need to be tapped on lightly, then using a spanner or socket, remove/

drill and insert pilot drill into centring sleeve; drill a pilot hole in centre of glow plug. Clean
away swarf using an air line. Alternatively, for greater accuracy, fit pilot drill into drill
holding adaptor and lock in place with grub screw. Fit drill holding adaptor to an elec
tric drill. Place centring adaptor in glow plug recess and slide drill holding adaptor/drill
into this and drill out a pilot hole in centre of glow plug.
3.3. Fit glow plug top nut remover into drill holding adaptor and fit both to a drill. Drill off top of
glow plug (if required). Clean away swarf with an air line.

glow plug (using cutting fluid). Clean out swarf using an air line.
3.6. Thread glow plug removal thread rod into hole of glow plug. Slide glow plug removal
sleeve over rod and into glow plug recess, then thread removal nut (nut side up)
onto end of rod and thread it down until it meets sleeve.
Using a 5 mm spanner to hold rod, and a 13 mm spanner to turn removal nut, remove glow
plug.
3.7. Thoroughly clean inside glow plug aperture using either de-carbonising wire brush.
Clean out combustion chamber using an air line.
3.8. Clean thread of original glow plug using tap corriger.
3.9. When satisfied that all swarf/debris has been cleared from combustion chamber (if head still in

3.10. Ensure all tools are removed from engine bay and returned to case, and store this in a
safe, dry, childproof location.
