Destination and use
The repeater attenuates signals of wireless telegrams between
EnOcean transmitters and receivers. Normally it is applied when the
transmitter position is outside the wireless range of the receiver or if
there are reception problems with an existing installation (e.g. putting
up of walls, repositioning of furniture/closets, etc.) between transmit-
ter and receiver. The transmission is carried out at a frequency of
868.3 MHz.
Mounting notes
The module's enclosure is prepared for on-wall mounting. The ideal
mounting position (optimum sensing range) is inside buildings 1 m
below the ceiling. The device should have a distance of min. 90 mm to
the wall. The distance to other devices (e.g. GSM/DECT/Wireless LAN/
EnOcean transmitters) should be min. 2 m. The enclosure can be
painted (do not use mettalic lacquers).
Start-up
The steute wireless switches send out time- or process-controlled tel-
egrams to the receiver. Within this wireless path the repeater amplifies
the wireless signals in order to extend the transmission path or to im-
prove the reception. For the operation it is only necessary to connect
the repeater to the power supply. A special »teach-in procedure« be-
tween transmitter and repeater is not necessary.
Design of wireless range
Because radio signals are electromagnetic waves, the signal is attenu-
ated on its way from the transmitter to the receiver. This means the
electrical as well as the magnetic field strengths decrease inversely
proportionally to the squared distance of transmitter and receiver
(E,H~1/r²). In addition to this natural restriction of the wireless range,
further interference factors occur: Metal parts, e.g. armours in walls,
metal foils of thermal insulations or vapour-deposited metal layer
heat protection glass reflect electromagnetic waves. Therefore, a so-
called deadspot can be found behind them. Radio waves are able to
penetrate walls, but the attenuation increases even more than in the
free field.
Penetration of radio waves:
For the practice this means that the used materials inside the building
play an important role. Some reference values to estimate the environ-
ment:
Sight connection in free field:
Sight connection in walkways:
Sight connection in halls:
Steel concrete walls:
Brick walls:
approx. 300 m
approx. 30 m
approx. 100 m
approx. 10 m through 1 wall
approx. 20 m through max. 3 walls
Device positioning
A test with the field strength indicator EPM 300, Material no. 1187179
should be carried out. The EPM 300 is a mobile field strength indicator
that indicates the field strength (RSSI) of received EnOcean telegrams
and distrubing sources in the 868.3 MHz range. Procedure for determi-
nation of mounting positions of wireless transmitter/receiver: Person
1 operates the wireless transmitter and generates a wireless telegram
by actuating the push-button. Person 2 checks the received field
strength indicated at the measuring device and thus determines the
mounting position.
Notices
The electrical connection may only be carried out by authorised per-
sonnel. The wireless repeater must not be used in connection with
other devices whose direct or indirect purpose is to ensure life or
health, or whose operation may pose a threat to humans, animals or
material assets. The described products were developed in order to
assume safety functions as part of an entire plant or machine. The re-
sponsibility taken by the manufacturer of a plant or machine implies to
secure the correct general function. Subject to technical modifications.
Moreover, steute does not assume any liability for recommendations
made or implied by this description. From this description new claims
for guarantee, warranty or liability cannot be derived beyond the gen-
eral terms and conditions of delivery.
Maintenance
With careful mounting as described above, only minor maintenance is
necessary. We recommend regular maintenance in the following steps:
1. Check function.
2. Remove dirt.
Cleaning
- In case of damp cleaning: use water or mild, non-scratching, non-
chafing cleaners.
- Do not use aggressive cleaners or solvents.
Clean enclosure on the outside only. Clean enclosure with household
cleaning agents. Do not use compressed air to clean.
Disposal
- Observe national, local and legal regulations concerning disposal.
- Recycle each material separately.
