5. LIFTING:

Check whether the safe working load specified for the clamp is adequate for the load which is
-
likely to arise during actual lifting:
Fix the lifting clamp to the lifting installation :
-
1. directly on the crane hook with safety lock,
2. with a coupling link or D-shackle,
3. with a rope or chain, if necessary in combination with a coupling link or D-shackle.
Take care to see that all the clamping media are inspected, and have the correct safety work
-
load, and also that the gripping brackets and locks are sufficiently large so that the clamp can
move freely within the hook or bracket.
Check to see that the clamp has suffered no visible damage.
-
Check, with the lever whether the clamp opens and closes easily.
-
Check whether the teeth of the cam segment are free of dirt, and clean them if necessary with
-
a steel brush.
CU- R lifting clamp : clean the cam segment with a brass brush.
Remove grease dirt and mill scales from the plate and the lifting clamp.
-
Open the clamp with the lever.
-
Place the jaws fully over the plate.
-
Close the clamp by turning the lever fully back.
-
Lift slowly so that the lifting force can take hold; take care to see that the clamp does not slip.
-
If the load slips, follow all the steps given under the chapter entitled "Lifting" (5) all over again.
-
If the load continues to slip, follow all the steps given under the chapter entitled
-

"Maintenance" (6).

Take care to see that the load is placed so as to be stable, before the clamp is released from
-
the plate.
6. MAINTENANCE:
Check the overall condition of the clamp at least once a month, for details, see the chapter
-
entitled "DISMANTLING/RE-INSTALLATION" (7).
Stop using the clamp if :
-
- the housing is deformed or damaged, particularly the jaws,
- the lifting eyelet and the coupling piece are visibly damaged
- the cam segment- and/or the teeth are no longer sharp,

- the lever safety latch mechanism is wither not working properly or not working at all,
- the shafts are visibly damaged,
