Purpose of the instrument
The reversible demonstration alternator is designed to experimentally illustrate
the influence of relative movement of a magnet and a coil to generate a
voltage.
The variable voltage in time is obtained by rotating the coil relative to the two
magnets or rotating the two magnets relative to the coil.
The reversible demonstration alternator can also be used to show that the
maximum value of the voltage and the period depend on the rotation speed.
The alternating nature of the voltage generated may be demonstrated simply
using a LED connected to the coil terminals.
A more detailed study can be carried out using an oscilloscope or an
acquisition interface connected to a computer.
