2.2 Sharpening the blade:

Important:
Before sharpening, the machine must under all circumstances guided out of the fabric. Pressure foot
should lie on base plate, i. e. it should be brought to the lowest position. Automatic sharpening unit is
started by a short depression of lever. It runs along the total blade length and switches itself off - after
the sharpening process - at the top dead centre.
Caution:
Operate the automatic sharpening unit only with the grinding wheels in position.
If the lever (16) becomes blocked, the pawl (17) must be lifted.
The release lever (16) for the automatic sharpening unit can be actuated a second time as the blade
moves upward for the additionally sharpening the tip of the blade. In this way, the automatic sharpening
unit reverses, and intensively grinds the tip of the blade.

2.3 Transporting the machine

Important
If the machine is to be transported on its side, be sure that it does not rest on the lever of the automatic
sharpening unit.
3. Maintenance
3.1 General: (Figs. 1, 2, 3, 4)
When doing any maintenance work on the machine; the plug must always be pulled out, and guard foot
must be lowered onto the base plate.

3.2 Replacing the blade

Press friction wheel (11) inward and turn it until blade (18) is at its lowest position. Loosen blade
fastening bolt (20) with the sprocket wrench (in the accessories). Draw blade (18) downwards and out
through base plate (21). Clean the blade guide (19) with the scraper (in the accessories), do not oil!
Insert the new blade. Care should be taken that the back of the blade is in full contact and that the blade
is inserted upwards to its top.
Tighten blade fastening bolt (20) while pressing blade (18) by mean of a cloth backwards into blade
guide (19). Check, by turning friction wheel (11), if the blade runs perfectly in the blade guide and in the
middle if cutting jaws (22).
It is strongly recommended that only the original KURIS blades are used, because the design and
adjustment of the sharpening unit are matched to KURIS blades and only in this manner can an
optimum resharpening of the blade be ensured.
3.3 Replacing the grinding wheels (Figs. 1, 3)
Swing out the grinding lever, and remove the grinding wheel by loosening the slotted nut. When
mounting the new grinding wheel, make sure that the steel shim behind the grinding wheel and the
cardboard washer behind the slotted nut are in their correct position.
The machine is supplied as standard with medium-grain grinding wheels for all types of material without
unusual characteristics. For particularly soft material, we recommend fine-grain grinding wheels.
Note:
The slotted nut on the small grinding wheel has a left-hand thread.
