KVS 900
1. Machine start-up
1.1 Oil (Fig. 1)
Check oil level in the supply tank (10). Refill if drainage screw is opened.
Upper oil level approx. 15 mm
Lower oil level approx. 5 mm
Check daily and refill with oil if needed.
Use only machinery oil (SAE 10-20): never sewing machine oil!
1.2. Electrical connection
The machine conforms to the specifications in force, for example VDE.
The machine should only be connected to a supply with neutral and earth contacts. In doing this, pay
attention to the voltage. (V) and the frequency (Hz), as given on the rating plate.
Important:
Before connecting to the supply, switch should be in the "off" - 0 –Position
1.3 Direction of rotation
Observe the direction of rotation in the case of three phase current
Press friction wheel (11) inward with the thumb. This wheel should be taken upward in the direction of
arrow (12). To change the direction of rotation in the case of three phase current: exchange the two
outer leads (2 phases) in the plug of the power cable.
Caution:
Incorrect direction of rotation will damage the automatic sharpening unit.
1.4. Initial start-up
If the machine has been transported or has stood idle for a long time, the blade and the blade guide
could be fouled by oil.
In this case, the blade must be removed and cleaned with a cloth. Also the blade guide has to be
cleaned. (see paragraph 3.2). A blade guide fouled by oil could heat up blade guide excessively. The
machine should be briefly switched on and off during the first two weeks, at low temperatures and after
several days of non-use in order to promote accelerated warming and uniform distribution of the oil.
2. Operating the machine
2.1 Cutting:
Switch the motor on with switch (13) then guide the machine to the start of cut against the layer of
fabric.
After pushing the clamping lever (14) as far as it will go, raise the guard (15) until it is above the layer of
cloth.
At the start of the cut, let guard foot fall onto the layer of fabric and press clamp lever briefly until guard
foot has balanced itself at the correct height.
When cutting small radii, clamp lever might have to be reactuated; so that foot can give, if the material
should bulge.
Caution:
The KVS 900 is fitted with a "one-hand lifting mechanism" for the guard. This device can be particular
advantageous in cutting low layers or soft, fluffy material. This mechanism permits the guard to be lifted
step by step in increments of 2,5 mm using the clamping lever. The clamping lever is only to be pressed
as far as the first pressure point. After the pressure point has been overcome, the guard is released and
drops by virtue of its own weight.
For safety reasons, guard foot must always, after a finished cutting operation, be lowered onto base
plate.
