Prior to use
Unpacking and assembling your generator
• Unpack your generator carefully; ensure that all packaging materials are
removed from the machine.
• If any parts are damaged / missing, have these parts repaired / replaced
before use.
Product features
Fuel tap
• The fuel tap (12) controls the flow of fuel to the carburettor.
• When the valve is in the ON position (handle vertical) fuel can flow from
the tank to the engine.
• With the valve in the OFF position (handle horizontal), the fuel tank is
isolated from the engine.
• Always return the fuel tap to the OFF position when not using the
generator.
Choke
• The choke (9) provides an enriched fuel mixture for starting the engine
Circuit breakers
• The generator is equipped with circuit breakers that will automatically cut
the power supply if a short or overloading is detected.
• If the circuit breaker is activated, check any connected appliances for
faults / misuse.
• The circuit breaker can be reset using the reset switch (5).
Earthing point
• This generator is fitted with an earthing point (7). For extra safety, an
earth lead should be connected between this point, and a ground spike
(lead and spike not supplied).
Before every use
• Always check that all parts / attachments are secure.
• Ensure that the generator is placed on a stable horizontal surface.
• Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment for the job that
you are to do. Wear ear defenders whenever the sound level is likely to
rise above 80dB.
• If an appliance operates abnormally, becomes sluggish, or stops
suddenly, turn it off immediately. Disconnect the appliance.
• Ensure that the electrical rating of any appliance/s attached to the
generator does not exceed the maximum continuous output rating.
NoTE: Substantial overloading will activate the circuit breaker, but
sustained slight overloading will not. Sustained slight overloading will
significantly shorten the operating life of your generator.
Operating instructions
oil
• The generator will need to be filled with oil before use. Attempting to run
your generator with low oil, or incorrect oil, will cause permanent
damage.
• To fill with oil, remove the oil filler/dipstick (8). The oil can then be poured
into the engine. The oil should be filled to the level of the filler/dipstick
hole. The level can be checked with the dipstick.
• Always securely tighten the filler/dipstick before using the generator.
• To prolong the service life of your engine, change the engine oil regularly.
Old oil can be drained by removing the drain plug (15).
Fuelling
• Always ensure that the generator is stopped, and has been allowed to
cool fully before fuelling.
• Always use regular unleaded petrol. Do not use petrol containing ethanol,
or methanol, as this could cause damage to fuel lines or other
components.
• Do not smoke, or allow any form of ignition near to where fuel is stored,
or where fuelling is to take place.
• Take care not to spill fuel. If any fuel is spilled, make sure that it is well
cleaned up before attempting to start the engine.
• Do not allow dirt or water to enter the fuel tank.
• To check the fuel level, remove the fuel filler cap. The fuel level should
reach the shoulder of the fuel filter. Do not overfill.
• Always securely tighten the fuel filler cap before using the generator.

Starting
• Disconnect all electrical loads from the sockets.
• Rotate the fuel tap (12) to the ON position (handle vertical).
• Check that the choke lever (9) is in the CLOSED position (to the right).
• Switch the ignition switch (2) to the ON position.
• Pull the starter handle (11) gently to take up any slack, then pull firmly
and quickly. Repeat until the engine starts. Do not wrap the starter rope
around your hand, always guide the rope back into its housing.
• As the engine warms up, move the choke lever (9) to the OPEN position
(to the left).
• You can now attach appliances to the generator. 230V appliances can
be plugged directly into the 230V socket (4). Attachment to 12V systems
is via the 12V lead (16), this connects to the 12V socket (3). Do not allow
the metal connecting clips to touch.
Loads
• The maximum continuous loading for this generator is 1KVA (1000W)
• Different types of load affect the generator in different ways, because of
this there is a restriction on some types of loads. Due to inductive effects
some motors can draw well above their rated power therefore a safety
correcting factor is required.
Type of Load
Resistive (e.g.
filament lamps,
kettles etc)
Power factor
1.0
Safe power limit
1000W
• Power factor will vary for different appliances. If the power factor is not
quoted in the appliance literature, always ensure that there is a generous
amount of extra capacity available.
Stopping
• In an emergency, switch the ignition switch (2) to the OFF position.
• The proper stopping procedure is; Disconnect all electrical loads, switch
the ignition switch (2) to the OFF position, rotate the fuel tap to the OFF
position.
Maintenance
Air filter
• The air filter is an important part of your generator and should be
maintained accordingly. A dirty filter will lead to poor performance and a
missing filter may result in permanent damage to your machine.
• To clean the air filter, remove the air filter cover (10). To do this, remove
the two large screws on the front. You will now have access to the filter
element. The filter element is the foam layer in the middle of the housing.
The element can be cleaned with soapy water. Once clean, dry fully, and
re-oil with normal machine oil. Squeeze excess out before replacement
to prevent the generator from smoking on start up.
• Reassemble as before.
Spark plug
• The spark plug should be regularly inspected to prevent poor
performance, or damage to your machine.
• Ensure that the generator is stopped, and has had time to cool fully.
• Remove the spark plug lead (14), and loosen the spark plug using spark
plug wrench supplied.
• The spark plug can now be removed. The spark plug tip should be light
brown, and the plug gap should be between 0.7 and 0.8mm. Adjust as
required. If the spark plug is damaged it should be replaced. If the tip of
the plug is burnt, or oily, the generator should be serviced at an
authorised service centre.
• Replace the spark plug, and screw in until finger tight. If the plug is new,
tighten a further ½ turn using the spark plug wrench. If the plug is being
reused, only tighten a further ¼ turn.
Fuel filters
• This generator is fitted with a fuel filter in the neck of the fuel tank. The
filter should be cleaned regularly to prevent any dirt entering the engine.
Clean using a normal non-flammable household detergent, always allow
to dry thoroughly before refitting.
