pH check
3. Operation
3.1 General information
The pH hand-held meter is pre-calibrated in the factory by a mV simulator that simulates an
ideal pH electrode mV output (0 mV at pH 7.00, at 25°C). Because most pH electrodes do not
exactly replicate the ideal electrode, it is necessary to calibrate the instrument on-site under
normal ambient conditions to ensure the highest measurement accuracy of the pH electrode.
3.2 Installing the battery
Prior to first use, remove the pH hand-held meter from the protective cover (which has not
yet been fastened - see Fig. 1, 10), open the battery compartment cover (Fig. 1, 8) using the
screwdriver provided and insert the 9V block-type battery.
Ensure the polarity is correct!
3.3 Accessories required
pH electrode
pH buffer solutions pH 7.00 and pH 4.65
Deionised water/distilled water
Measuring jug, 30 ml (2x)
Measuring jug, 100 ml
3.4 Two-point calibration
Figure 2
3.4.1
To prepare for the calibration, first fill one 30 ml measuring jug with approx. 10 ml
pH buffer solution pH 7.00 and the other 30 ml jug with pH buffer solution pH 4.65.
Then fill the 100 ml measuring jug with deionised/distilled water.
3.4.2
Carefully remove the electrode protective cap from the pH electrode and store in a
safe place. Leave the KCl solution in the protective cap.
3.4.3. Press the ON button (Fig. 1, 2) to switch on the pH hand-held meter.
3.4.4
Before immersing the pH electrode into the buffer solution, rinse with deionised/
distilled water.
3.4.5
Now fully immerse the pH electrode into the measuring jug with buffer solution pH 7.00
down to the bottom of the jug.
