1 – FIRST START-UP
Carry out this procedure when the watermaker is started for the first time or during restart after a general stop of many days. (Notably,
following a preservation procedure: biocide in the membranes)
Carrying out the start up procedure, and then returning the report form located at the end of this booklet to the factory (duly
completed, dated and signed) is MANDATORY FOR THE APPLICATION OF GUARANTEE. Never start the watermaker in a polluted
area: oil will clog the membranes and chlorine will destroy the membranes (risk not covered by the guarantee).
1.
Check the correct connection (pump, filter, vaccum switch...) and the tightening of all water system fittings.
2.
After a prolonged shutdown, operate the booster pump by hand (a few turns) to prevent mechanical packing breakage when
restarting.
3.
Check the presence of the 5µ cartridge in the filter (not clogged).
4.
Check tightening of electrical connections.
5.
Check that the electrical voltage supplied corresponds with that of the AQUA-BASE unit, and that the available power-supply is
sufficient.
6.
Open the seawater inlet valve (V0) and the reject (R).
7.
Put the valve (1) in seawater-supply position and the valve (11) must be in the reject position (back to the sea).
8.
Open the air bleed valve (7) of the hydraulic amplifier (6).
9.
Put the unit ON by opening the main breaker on "1".
10. Start the pump by pushing the "ON" (green) button (30). Make sure that sea water circulates correctly in the pump and towards the
5µ filter. For the first starting-up, it's possible that the low pressure pump emits a noise with the air being discharged (LP pressure
up to 4 / 10 bar).
11. If the unit stops after a few seconds (5 sec), check that the inlet valve is opened and the strainer is not clogged. Then restart by
pressing the "ON" (green) button (30).
12. Let the circuit purge during at least 5 minutes, then close the air bleed valve (7) and check the pressure increases progressively.
DRY OPERATION FOR MORE THAN 30 SECONDS WOULD IRREVERSIBLY DAMAGE THE PUMP. THE UNIT WILL STOP IN
LP FAULT MODE IF OPERATED DRY FOR 5 SECONDS
13. The pressure increases progressively in the system up to 20 / 65 bar (depending on the ESW version). The production of fresh
water is stable after 2 minutes (automatic reject of the production during 2 minutes). The HP pressure is not adjustable! Automatic
adjustment up to 20 / 65 bar depending on the salinity
14. Report the start-up operations on the form located at the end of the book (appendix). Return the copy back to the factory.
N.B: As the unit operates with 2 pistons, it is normal for the pressure to drop (1 second) at each new cycle.
2 – NORMAL STARTING
1.
Open the hull seawater valve (VO) and the reject (R).
2.
Check that the strainer (2) and the 5µ filter are not clogged.
3.
Put the inlet valve (1) towards the pump and the cleaning valve (11) in reject position.
4.
Close the air bleed valve (7).
5.
Put the unit ON by opening the main breaker on "1".
6.
Start the unit by pushing the "ON" (green) button (30).
7.
The LP pressure has to be between 4 and 10 bar, the AQUA-BASE unit is operating (HP pressure between 20 and 65 bar) and
the production water is at the correct salinity (lighting-up of the green led indicator lamp (33) of the salinometer).
3 – STOPPING THE WATERMAKER
There is a different procedure after a stop:
Rinsing: Ensures rinse of the membrane with fresh water (recommended at every stop) and increases the membrane lifespan: carry
-
out a rinsing when the watermaker is stopped for maximum 2 weeks.
Cleaning: Ensures the quality of the membrane performance after chemicals cleaning: carry out a cleaning every year (or every
-
1000 Hours).
Preservation: Ensures the preservation of the membrane with the biocide solution, it is required when the watermaker is stopped for
-
more than 2 weeks, renew the storage operation at least once every 6 months.
Wintering: Carries out the cleaning and storage of the watermaker (for a long-term period of non-use, clean and renew the
-
preservation solution every 6 months).
