CONNECTION
& OPERATION
Connection to each input terminal of the control amplifier
Output of a turntable, a tuner, or a tape deck should be
connected
to the corresponding
input terminals
of the
control
amplifier.
Connection
between
the input terminals of the M-120A
and
the control amp
Connect the output terminals of the control amplifier to
the input terminals (8) of the M-120A, using a pin-plug cord.
Be careful not to misconnect the right channel and the left
channel.
Connection
between
the
speaker
terminals
of the M-120A
and the speaker systems
Stereophonic
playback
is made with a pair of speaker
systems
for
the
right and
left channels.
This amplifier
is
provided
with
2-channel
terminals
for main
and
remote
speakers for stereophonic reproduction and a "DUO-ALPHA
OUTPUT" terminal for monaural output.
In
the
case
of
stereophonic
reproduction,
the
right
speaker
system
should
be connected
to the ''R'' speaker
terminal, and the left one to the ''L" terminal.
Note that
perfect
sound
reproduction
cannot
be expected
if the phase
is not matched
between
both channels.
To match
the phase
is to connect
the (+) terminal
of the right speaker to the (+)
terminal
(red) in the ''R'' channel of this amplifier, and the
(—) terminal to the {(—) one (black).
Do the same with the
left speaker.
If mismatched
for some
reason
(e.g., mis-
connection of speakers), the low frequency range is subdued
and stable playback cannot be realized.
When you use the M-120A as a monaural! power amplifier,
connect a speaker system to the 'TDUO-ALPHA
OUTPUT"
terminal (12); the red terminal is for (+) and the black is for
(—).
To
firmly
connect
the
speaker
terminals,
strip
the
insulation off the speaker wire by 15mm (5/8'') and insert it
into the terminal
hole by loosening the terminal and then fix
it tight by turning the terminal clockwise.
CAUTION:
When you connect speaker systems to the
M-120A,
never
connect
them
to the speaker terminal
(10) (11) and (12) at the sarre time.
[The terminal
(10) and (11) can be connected simultaneously.]
Connection of Power Supply Source
The AC Cord (13) should be plugged into the wall socket
in
the
listening
room.
When
the
Power
Switch
(2)
is
depressed, the Pilot Lamp will blink for about 8 seconds and
then it is kept lit, when the M-120A is in perfect operational
condition.
Operation Procedure
When
ail the preparation
work for connection is finished,
the
program
source
you
are
going
to
listen
to
can
be
reproduced.
But in order to operate the M-120A with the
best condition, the following procedure should be achieved.
4. Set*both of the two Input Level Set (1) to the endmost
counter-clockwise
position.
Also
the
main
volume
control
of the contro!
amplifier
should be in the lowest
volume position.
2.
Press the Power
Switch
(2) to ON.
Some
8 seconds are
necessary
for the timedelay muting operation. During this
period, the Pilot Lamp will blink.
When the lamp is kept
lit, the
entire
circuitry
is put
into
perfect
operational
condition.
Then
switch
on
the
power
switch
of
the
control
amplifier, and set the input selector switch at the
same
time
to the program
source you are going to listen
to.
3.
Set
the
Speaker
Selector
to the
position
to which
the
speaker
system
is connected.
Note that when
you drive
two
speaker
systems
(MAIN
& REMOTE)
at the same
time,
the
impedance
of each
speaker
system
should
exceed 8 ohms at least.
4. Set the Selector Switch for Power
Indication (5) to the
"full"
position.
In
case
high
power
output
is not
necessary, set it to the ''1/100" position.
In the center
"off"
position
of this switch, the Power
Indicator (4)
does not operate.
5. Turn both of the two Input Level Set (1) in a clockwise
direction
to
an
appropriate
position.
Then
turn
the
volume
control
of the
control
amplifier
in a clockwise
direction
to an easy-to-use
position.
Again
adjust the
Input
Level
Set (1) to obtain appropriate
sound
level
reproduced from the speaker system.
Note
that
when
the
M-120A
is used
as a monaural
amplifier using the ''DUO-ALPHA" connection, the input
level set can be done with the Rch Input Level Set (1).
Setting of the M-120A
Since
the
M-120A
produces
such
huge
power
output as
120 watts per channel both channels driven into 8 ohms load,
and even
300 watts at monaural output when it is used in the
DUO-ALPHA
connection,
care
should
be
paid
to
its
placement
to
realize
smooth
heat-dissipation.
Also
the
M120A
employs
specia! pipe-centered heat sink for effective
het dissipation, therefore set the M-120A always horizontal,
as otherwise heat dissipation at the final output stage may
not be sufficient
only to cause
troubles.
