In-duct fire damper BAE
INSTALLATION AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
In order to ensure proper functioning and personal
safety, all of the following regulations and the infor-
mation in the general building authority approval no.
Z-41.3-696 must be read carefully and observed.
m
The type BAE shutter devices, which are used to
prevent fires from spreading, are approved by the
Deutsche Institut für Bautechnik. The approval must be
available at the place of use and it must be provided by
the manufacturer of the ventilation system to the client
and the authorities involved upon request.
Other required copies are available from the supplier upon
request.
RECEIPT
The shipment must be checked for damage and accu
racy immediately upon receipt. If damage is apparent,
immediately report the damage by consulting the trans
port company. If the claim is not made in due time, any
potential claims may be lost.
SCOPE OF DELIVERY
The BAE induct fire dampers are delivered in the diameter
range 80 200 mm.
AREA OF APPLICATION
Shutter device to prevent the spread of fire and smoke.
Suitable for installation in ventilation systems according
to DIN 180173 for supply and extract air inside and out
side of the walls of classified ventilation shafts according
to the designs in Fig. 4. Insertion in spiral duct or for
wall installation using mounting sleeve EH (accessories).
FUNCTION
If the ambient temperature of +72 °C is exceeded, the in
tegrated fusible link will release the semicircular damper
blades, which will close suddenly by spring force. Two
retention springs lock the shutters.
CLASSIFICATION OF FIRE RESISTANCE CLASSES
Depending on their application, the BAE have different fire
resistance classes:
K 9018017 in ventilation shafts with a fire resistance
duration of at least 90 minutes.
K 6018017 in ventilation shafts with a fire resistance
duration of at least 60 minutes.
K 3018017 in ventilation shafts with a fire resistance
duration of at least 30 minutes.
PERMISSIBLE VENTILATION DUCTS
The ventilation shafts must be at least 24 mm thick and
be made of mineralbased building materials; they can be
singlelayered or be made of single or multilayer building
materials. The ventilation shafts must also be designed
with moulded parts. A fire resistance duration of at least
30 minutes must be proven for ventilation shafts. Main air
ducts may have free crosssections of max. 1000 cm
There must be concrete casting between the air ducts and
the fire protection cladding in ceiling areas.
CONNECTION OF VENTILATION DUCTS
– Connection to the main duct
The BAE must be connected to ventilation ducts made
of noncombustible building materials (class A, DIN 4102)
within the ventilation shaft. They may also be connected
to ventilation shafts without inner ducting.
– Force transmission in walls
The BAE may only be connected to ventilation ducts if
their design and installation does not exert significant force
on the shutter device or the ventilation duct as a result of
heating in the event of a fire.
OTHER USAGE PROVISIONS
• Usage in domestic kitchens is permitted.
• Connection to extract air ducts in commercial kitchens
is not permitted.
• Installation regardless of air flow direction and suitable
for supply and extract air.
• Extractor hoods without builtin fans for domestic kit
chens may be connected in low pressure operation
mode.
• Extractor hoods with builtin fans require a separate,
sealed extract air duct above roof level.
MAINTENANCE CONDITIONS
The approval does not specify requirements for the shutter
element in terms of maintenance and inspection, and thus
it is maintenancefree.
Accessibility: The shutter element must be installed so
that the internal inspection and cleaning of the component
is possible.
