Step 2: Survey Your Set Up Location
1. Before installing this kit, it is recommended that you check
with your local building inspector to see if a permit is
required for this type of installation. Be sure to point out that
this indoor power panel and generator power inlet box are
not connected to your home electrical wiring.
2. INSIDE: Find a convenient place for the indoor power
panel a recommended 19 inches from the floor. The
location should be between wall studs, not directly in
line with an electrical outlet and should not be in direct
alignment with known water or waste pipes. Once you
have determined a location, measure and mark the spot
with a pencil. This mark will be the location of the center
of the indoor power panel.
3. OUTSIDE: Estimate the spot on your outside wall directly
opposite the location of the indoor power panel. Make sure
that spot does not interfere with other outside objects, such
as bushes, utility or cable TV boxes, etc. Make sure that the
location of the outside power inlet box will allow enough
room for a generator cord to be plugged into the bottom of
the box once it is mounted on your outside wall.
NOTE: If you cannot find a location on the outside of your
house that is suitable for mounting the power inlet box
directly opposite the indoor power panel or if you want to
mount the indoor power panel or the outdoor power inlet
box in a remote location on the outside of your house, we
recommend the following: Connect the indoor power panel
with the outdoor power inlet box with the outdoor power
inlet box using 3-wire with ground building wire up to 100
feet in length. To do this, you will need to install a recessed
junction box in the wall behind the power panel in order to
safely extend the wiring. The mounting holes in the indoor
power panel have been designed specifically to fit the holes
in a recessed junction box for this purpose. If you need
such a remote installation, we recommend consulting a
professional electrician to install
