Mediroyal Tonus Hand Roll
GB
General information · Read the instruction carefully. The product should be fitted by a medical
professional like an occupational therapist, physical therapist, orthopedic technician or a medical
doctor. Patients with diabetes, circulatory problems or sensitive skin should consult their doctor
before use. If the patient is allergic, check the material content on the textile label.
Indications · The product has been designed to open the fingers and to reduce pressure to the
palmar area for patients with spasticity.
Contraindications · Patients with open pressure wounds in the palmar area should not use the
product unless the wound has been sealed with a wound dressing.
Pre Application · To select the right size, take the width over the MCP-joints. If the patient has
a very high tonus, it might be beneficial to try to inhibit the spasticity before application. Correct
positioning of the shoulder, external rotation of the upper limb and a gentle extension and stretch
of the wrist and fingers might make application easier.
In order to insert the air roll into the palmar area you could try to flex the wrist in order to
release tension over the flexor tendons to open the fingers more. Make sure that the thumb will
not hyper- extend.
Application · The valve should be placed on the ulnar side. Deflate the bladder completely by
using the back tip of the pump. Position the roll into the palmar area and let the fingers grip the
roll. You can secure the strap around the wrist by crossing it or wait until you have fully inflated
the bladder. The strap will prevent the roll from slipping out of the hand if spasticity decreases.
Insert the clear tip of the pump into the valve. Inflate the bladder until the finger tips can't
reach the palmar area. Sometimes it's easier to fill the bladder to maximum and then slightly
deflate it in order to make the roll soft and comfortable.
The hand roll can be used both day- and nighttime. The spasticity reduction effect in the
hand roll is limited since the wrist is not stable. It's possible to combine the hand roll with a
normal wrist brace in order to prevent wrist flexion.
Finger separation · If there is a need to separate the fingers, the TON813 Finger Separation
Strap can be used. Apply the finger loops first. Then apply the hand roll, secure it around the
wrist and inflate. Then run the finger separation strap around the wrist and secure.
Removal · To remove the splint, start by deflating the bladder with the black tip of the pump.
Then open the strap around the wrist
Material content · If the patient is allergic, check the material content on the label cover before use.
Caring instructions for the cover · The cover is made from a special composition of wool
fibers that enhance ventilation and moisture transportation and also provides pressure
absorption. The cover can be machine washed in 60 degrees C using the enclosed laundry bag.
The cover should not be tumbled, it should air dry. Wool is a natural fiber; therefore the cover
might release lint or fibers during the first washings. Once the cover has dried after washing, you
can use a hair brush to make the surface soft again. We recommend that the cover should be
washed at least once a week. Replacement covers can be ordered separately.
