2-2. Setting up the UPS

Step 1: UPS input connection
Plug the UPS into a two-pole, three-wire, grounded outlet only. Avoid using extension cords.
 For 208/220/230/240VAC models: The power cord is supplied in the UPS package.
 For 110/115/120/127VAC models: The power cord is attached to the UPS. The input plug
is a NEMA 5-15P for E4 LCD 1000 (S) and E4 LCD 1500 (S) models, NEMA 5-20P for E4
LCD 2000 (S) models.
Note: For Low voltage models: Check that the "Fault info" indicator does not light up on the
LCD. It lights up when the UPS is plugged into an improperly wired utility power outlet (Refer
to Troubleshooting section).
Step 2: UPS output connection
For socket-type outputs, there are two kinds of outlets: programmable and general outlets.
Please connect non-critical devices to the programmable outlets and critical devices to
the general outlets. During power failure, you may extend the backup time to critical
devices by setting shorter backup time for non-critical devices.
For terminal-type input or outputs, please the steps below for the wiring configuration:
a) Remove the small cover from the terminal block
b) For E4 LCD 3000 (S), we recommend using AWG14 or 2.5mm
For NEMA type, we recommend using WG12-10 or 3.3mm
c) Upon completion of the wiring configuration, please check that the wires are securely
affixed.
d) Put the small cover back on the rear panel.
Step 3: Communication connection
Communication ports:
USB port
To allow for unattended UPS shutdown/start-up and status monitoring, connect one end of the
communication cable to the USB/RS-232 port and the other to the communication port of your
PC. With the monitoring software installed, you can schedule UPS shutdown/start-up and
monitor UPS status on your PC.
The UPS is equipped with an intelligent slot, ideal for either an SNMP or AS400 card. When
installing either an SNMP or AS400 card in the UPS, it will provide advanced communication
and monitoring options.
Note: A USB port and RS-232 port cannot work at the same time.
Step 4: Network connection
Network/Fax/Phone surge port
Connect a single modem/phone/fax line to the surge-protected "IN" outlet on the back panel of
the UPS unit. Connect the "OUT" outlet to the equipment with another modem/fax/phone line
cable.
