Right behaviour for Felling Trees, Limbing and Cutting Branches
Felling Trees
When felling trees make sure not to
endanger any person, not to strike
any utility lines or cause any property
damages.
When standing on a slope away
terrain always stand on the uphill side
of the terrain as the tree is likely to
roll or slide downhill.
Before felling a tree, plan an escape
path and clean the path if necessary.
The escape path should extend back
and diagonally to the rear of the
expected line of fall.
Before felling is started, consider the natural lean of the tree, the
location of larger branches and the wind direction to judge which
way the tree will fall.
Remove dirt, stones, loose bark, nails, stables and wire from the
tree.
ATTENTION! When you fell a tree, be sure to warn your bystander
of the danger area.
Making the Kerf Cut
Make a notch of 1/3 of the diameter of the tree. Cut perpendicular
to the direction of falls.
First, make the lower horizontal notching cut. This will help to avoid
pinching either the saw chain or the guide bar when the second
notching cut in being made.
