STERILIZERUV PS
If the device is damaged, disconnect it from the mains immediately. Do not oper-
ate the device if its power cord or quartz glass shield is damaged. Do not repair or
replace the power cord!
When there is a risk of freezing, switch off the sterilizer, drain the water, and store the
sterilizer until spring in a place protected from frost.
Depending on your country, other special regulations may apply to the use of
the sterilizer.
The device employs a UV-C lamp. Accidental use of the device or damage to its
housing may lead to the release of hazardous UV-C radiation. The UV radiation emit-
ted by the bulb employed in the sterilizer is harmful to human eyes and skin even
in small amounts. Do not use the device outside of its housing, nor stare directly at
the UV-C bulb when in operation! The bulb should not be used with power sources
other than specified by the device manufacturer. Before opening the device, read
the manual. Always disconnect the device from the mains before replacing the UV-C
bulb.
This device can be operated by children who are at least eight years of age, by per-
sons with reduced physical or mental capabilities or persons with no prior experi-
ence with the device only under supervision or following aninstruction on the safe
operation of the device to ensure that the person is aware of any associated risks.
The device is not a child's toy! Do not let children to clean or perform maintenance
on the device without supervision.
PREPARATION FOR LAUNCH
The UV Sterilizer always collaborates with a pump connected in series. The water flow
direction inside the sterilizer is irrelevant.
Prior to assembly of the UV sterilizer make sure that:
· the frame (3b) is placed all the way in the head (9a),
· the securing nut (4) is screwed in all the way clockwise – see fig. 1.
· The sterilizer is supplied in line with the drawing on the first page of these instructions,
where the inlet and outlet openings face the same direction. If needed, they can be set
to face opposite directions (see fig. 4). Details of such rearrangement are described in
the chapter „Cleaning of the sterilizer", in connection with figure 2 and 3.
· Now you can check operation of the sterilizer, connecting it for a moment to a power
supply socket. Glow will be visible by the transparent connector (13) at the end of the
housing (1).
The device should only be installed outside of the pond (out of water). The sterilizer must
be connected to the pump outlet.
NOTICE:
1. Water flowing through the sterilizer should be mechanically filtered (by a preliminary filter).
2. For the purpose of problem-free bleeding, the sterilizer should be leaning slightly and
turned so that the outlet is the highest point of the sterilizer.
3. Water passing through the sterilizer cannot have pressure greater than 0.5 bar).
4. The place where the pump sucks in the water in the pond should be located as far as pos-
sible from the point where purified water returns to the pond.
The sterilizer may be mounted with the help of the mounting brackets (2), which can be
screwed to the substrate.
The stabilizer (3a) is waterproof. Rainfall or water splash will not cause any threat. It should
be placed in an airy and shady spot, out of direct sunlight. It may not be placed in vicinity
of other intense heat sources. It can be mounted with screws to fireproof substrate. Do
not cover the stabilizer.
The transparent connectors (13) should be cut at the place corresponding to the diameter
of the applied hose and along with gaskets (10) greased with Vaseline screwed by hand in
the housing (1) and head (9a).
The sterilizer should be connected into water circulation tightly with proper hoses.
LAUNCH AND OPERATION
Following completion of the above preparations, first start the pump collaborating with the
sterilizer. Make sure that the hoses are tightly connected to the sterilizer. If leaks are discov-
ered, tighten up the connections. Only following water flow stabilization and air-bleeding,
turn on the sterilizer by placing the plug in a power supply socket. Operation of the UV steri-
lizer is evidenced by glow appearing by the connector (13) at the end of the housing (1).
For the time of interval in pump operation, e.g. for reason of maintenance or failure of the
pump, and when water is not flowing due to filter blockage, the UV sterilizer should be
turned off by removing the plug form the power supply socket.
For the purpose of obtaining optimum effect, it is recommended to operate the UV steri-
lizer across the season from the spring through late fall. The anticipated period of effec-
tive UV fluorescent tube operation is ca. 7500 hours, that is over 300 days, so it will serve
without problems for the entire season. When the UV fluorescent tube has worked for as
long time – for example the whole season – it is recommended to replace it in the spring
before commencement of a new season.
CLEANING OF THE STERILIZER
The UV sterilizer operates effectively as long as the quartz tube of cover (9b) is clean. At
first it should be cleaned once a month, and later, according to environmental conditions,
according to experience. For this purpose follows the steps below:
· unplug the device and the collaborating pump from the grid by pulling the plug form
the socket;
· remove the sterilizer from its mounting, disconnect it from the water circulation and
drain the remaining water from it;
· unscrew the connectors (13) from the housing (1) and the cover head (9a), remove the
gaskets form them (10), clean the gaskets and their grooves thoroughly under running
water;
· holding the cover head (9a) in your right hand, unscrew the housing (1) following the
arrow „I" clockwise (see fig. 2), and then carefully remove the quarts housing from it
(9) – along with the complete fitting (3 etc.) – following arrow „II".
NOTE: To clean the sterilizer, it is not necessary to remove the fitting (3) with electrical parts
from the quartz cover (9).
· remove the gasket (11) from the cover head (9a), clean the gasket and its groove thor-
oughly under running water;
· clean the housing (1) from outside and inside;
· clean the complete cover (9) from the outside, rinse it under running water, treating the
quartz tube (9b) with particular care;
NOTES:
1. To clean the housing (1) and cover (9) never use any mechanical tools - do not scrub!
2. In case of damage to the quartz tube (9b) it should be replaced. To replace the quartz tube,
unscrew four screws holding the setting bush (14) – see fig. 8.
· place the gaskets (10) and (11) in their groves on connectors (13) and on the cover head
(9a) properly and grease them lightly with Vaseline;
· prior to assembly of the sterilizer carefully clean the surfaces under the gaskets: in-
ternal surfaces „B" of the inlet and outlet and fragment „C" of the housing (1) – these
fragments are marked in figures 1 and 2;
· after cleaning, make sure to rinse under clean running water;
· for proper assembly of the sterilizer, consult figure 3. The edge of the housing (1) fea-
tures small marks, marked in the figure as „D". The complete cover (9) along with the
entire internal equipment of the sterilizer should carefully be slid into the housing (1)
following arrow „I" in such position, in which the inlet/outlet „E" of the cover head (9a) is
more or less facing the „D" mark of the housing (1), along the „F-F" line. When the cover
(9) is slid in, the housing (1) should be turned counterclockwise along arrow „II" as far as
it will go;
