4. FUEL
The Altech wood stoves are only suitable for burning wood. It is not permitted to burn
chipboard or wood which has been varnished, painted, impregnated or compressed wood
or hardwood (e.g. Azobe). Burning materials other than clean, dry wood reduces the life
span of the stove and harms the environment and is therefore not permitted at the same
time the warranty will no longer be valid.
We recommend the use of birch or beech which has been cut into pieces and left outside
under a lean-to for a minimum of 1 year. The moisture content of the wood must be
between 12% and 18%.

5. TIPS

The stove will reach a high temperature more quickly after it has been lit by filling it with
smaller pieces of wood. A longer burning time can be achieved by using larger pieces of
wood and by partly closing the primary valve and the window's aeration handle.
A large proportion of the Altech stove is made from soapstone. This material holds
the heat which is produced from burning for a longer period of time. The stove will still
give off heat 2 to 7 hours after the fire has gone out.
Do not burn the stove fiercely for longer than 2 hours. After burning the stove fiercely,
the air supply must be reduced in order to guarantee the efficiency of the stove. Larger
pieces of wood must be used when adding wood to the stove. Smaller pieces of wood
can be tied together so that they do not burn as fiercely.
All the air supply openings in the stove, including the secondary air supply valve, can be
closed after the fire has gone out completely and a glowing mass can no longer be seen
in the stove (see figure E). This will cause the stove to give off heat for a longer period of
time. All the handles must be opened again, however, before relighting the stove.
If, in time, the inside of the stove is not burnt clean but remains black, then the burning
process is no longer correct. More wood must be burnt and/or the air supply must be
opened further.

6. MAINTENANCE

Ash
The ash pan must be emptied every day. Be careful when doing so, because the ash may
still contain glowing embers 24 hours after the fire has gone out. Therefore, preferably
empty the ash pan in a steel container which does not contain any inflammable parts.
