8. When you have cut 25% through the trunk, place a
wedge to avoid the tree inclining on the opposite
side to that where you want the tree to fall to. It
also avoids the bar being imprisoned.
9. Carry on the cut © until you reach some 3cm from
the guided cut. We must leave this space that will
act as a hinge which will ensure that the tree falls
in the expected direction.
10. The tree will fall in direction E.
If the tree does not fall, force its fall by pushing the
wedge further into the trunk of the tree.
The moment the tree starts to fall, move away
backwards and to one side to maintain an adeqaute
security distance (a bigger distance to that of the
height of the tree being cut.) It is fundamental to move
away once the tree is falling, as when the tree starts
touching other objects and the floor, branches will
break and could be propelled towards the end user.
When felling a tree, always warn everybody who is in
the vicinity before starting and also warn everybody
before doing the horizontal cut and the tree starts
falling.
Ensure you are in a stable position and never lean on
the tree being felled.
If you work on an incline, place yourself on the top
incline so as to avoid the tree rolling towards you once
it has been cut.
Follow all the security instructions included
in this manual so as to avoid the kick back
of the machine.
7.3.2. CUTTING A TRUNK PLACED ON THE GROUND
When a trunk is fully placed on the ground, cut firstly
halfway from the top end, then turn the trunk halfway
and cut the rest.
If the trunk is leaning on two sides (B zone) you must
first cut the top end halfway through (1) and then
cut the rest from below (2). This way you will avoid
that the internal trunk tension closes in on the cut,
blocking the chain and the chainsaw bar.
If you are going to cut with the trunk on one extreme
(A) you will have to start inversely. Firstly cut the trunk
halfway from the bottom and then from the top part (2).
7.3.3. CUTTING BRANCHES FROM A FELLED TREE
It is important that these branches are not folded and/
or under tension. If the branch to be cut is folded or
under tension y could propel itself towards you when
you cut it.
