Sensor will not calibrate
• Check that voltage is DC and check polarity.
• On flush mount sensor (FSS1-F) check that magnet array plate is facing up and orientation marks are aligned.
• Check that there are no foreign magnet fields near the sensor. This is indicated by a slow beep when the door is closed.
• Check the door gap. See specifications on page 4.
• Check product orientation. The FSS1 is designed for installation on a hinged door with a door jamb swinging one direction only.
How to accommodate a loop-in loop-out cable requirement with two cables
• Provision is made for a single cable in the flush model (FSS1-F). The surface mount conduit model (FSS1-S) allows two cables. The
surface mount without conduit model (FSS1-S-NC) requires one hole to be drilled. A second hole may be drilled on flush and surface
models. Be sure to note the position of circuit boards and tamper switches when drilling additional holes. Carefully remove the
circuit board from the flush model (FSS1-F) and take care not to damage the tamper switch cables.
• If the sensor is installed outdoors, use the supplied stick-on rubber gasket behind the sensor housing.
The sensor alarm is activated when the door is moved toward the jamb
• The door fully closed position has not been recorded by the sensor. Recalibrate the sensor and ensure that the door is fully closed
against the jamb or seal. See "Recalibration" on page 4 for details.
• Check the door gap. See specifications on page 4. It may be necessary to add or remove spacers behind the sensor housing.
False alarms on double door applications
• False alarm on double doors is normally caused by excessive movement of the passive leaf with auto flush bolts. The passive leaf
movement must be minimized. The gap between mortise lock tongue and strike keeper should be at manufacturer's recommended
value ³⁄64" (1 mm).
Other important information
• This product is not a balanced reed switch and operates differently than a reed switch device. This product records and stores
the magnetic profile of the magnet array during calibration. It is critical that the calibration steps are followed carefully and
completely. This is particularly important when the door is fitted with a dust or acoustic seal. The seal must be partially compressed for
the sensor to record the full range of door movement. See calibration details on page 4.
• Proper gap between sensor housing and magnet array plate is important for proper operation. Follow the requirements for door gap as
detailed on page 4. If necessary, spacers may be added to suit the installation.
• Proper vertical center line alignment of the sensor housing and magnet array plate is important. The magnet array plate may be
installed so that the plate vertical center line is toward the door jamb by as much as ⁵⁄32" (4 mm).
