The FSS1 is supplied ready for calibration when it is first powered.
1. The rotary selection switch must be set to 0, 1, 2, or 3, and the
door must be open.
2. If a foreign magnetic field is present, then slow beeping will
occur until the magnetic field is removed.
3. With sensor power connected, slowly close the door.
4. When the door is ~¹³⁄16" (20 mm) from closed, the beeping will
become more rapid. Continue very slowly closing the door as
the sensor records magnet positions.
5. The beeping will become more rapid as the door is fully
closed.
6. Apply pressure on the door near the FSS1 and hold the door
in closed position until the beeping becomes more rapid. The
sensor must record the full travel of the door. If the door is
fitted with an acoustic seal, this must be compressed. After
several seconds the beeping will stop and sensor calibration is
complete.
If the door droops more than ³⁄32" (2 mm) or a magnet plate has been replaced, then the sensor must be recalibrated as follows:
1. Open the door and remove the sensor from the housing.
2. With power connected, set the rotary switch to position 9 for 2 seconds, then back to the starting position.
3. Slowly close the door as described above.
The maximum gap between sensor housing and magnet array plate is ⁹⁄32" (7 mm), and minimum gap is ¹⁄16" (1.5 mm) for all product
models.
A ⅛" – ¹³⁄64" (3 mm – 5 mm) gap is preferable to allow for possible door droop. To achieve this gap range the flush mount model (FSS1-F)
may require that spacer(s) be installed under the magnet plate array. The surface mount models (FSS1-S, FSS1-S-NC) allow some
vertical adjustment by the vertical slots.
Once calibrated, the sensor can accommodate up to ³⁄32" (2 mm) door droop before recalibration is required. The installation date and door
gap dimension may be noted on the sticker on the inside sensor lid.
1. Insert a steel object (not stainless steel) between the sensor housing and the magnet array plate. This should cause the alarm
to trigger.
2. The sensor rotary switch may be placed at setting 1 which will cause the buzzer to activate on alarm.
3. Remove the sensor housing lid to enable testing of the tamper switches.
