FSS1-F, Flush mount
The sensor is flush mounted into the door frame with the magnet array plate mounted in the top of the door. The FSS1 sensor must be
fully mortised into the door frame.
Installation on outward swinging doors is recommended.
1. Mount the sensor housing and magnet array plate on the door frame and door at a point farthest away from the hinge side as
possible.
2. Install the sensor housing using the supplied mounting tabs. The face of the sensor should be flush with the door frame.
3. The magnet array plate is normally mortised into the top of the door opposite the sensor housing with countersunk fastener holes
facing upwards. Be sure to align the marks on the sensor and magnet array plate. If space permits, the magnet array plate may be
surface mounted.
L Vertical alignment of the sensor housing and the magnet array plate center lines is important.
4. Run cable through the side of the sensor housing and through the cable gland and tighten.
FSS1-S and FSS1-S-NC, Surface mount
Two surface mount models are available: FSS1-S with a conduit fitting and FSS1-S-NC without a conduit fitting (for rear cable entry). This
product is not a balanced reed switch product and operates differently than a reed switch. This product is suitable for installation on metal
or non-metal doors and inward or outward swinging doors.
1. Mount the sensor housing and magnet array housing on the door frame and door at a point farthest away from the hinge side as
possible. The sensor housing may also be mounted to the side of the door.
2. Mount the magnet array housing on the door with the magnet plate facing up. Mount the sensor housing directly above the magnet
array housing (or to the side) with both housings evenly aligned.
3. The gap between sensor and magnet housings should be ⅛" (3 mm) to ⁷⁄32" (5 mm). Maximum gap is ⁹⁄32" (7 mm).
4. The operational trigger distance (alarm trigger) from the vertical center line is approximately ¹⁹⁄32" (15 mm).
5. A cast dimple is provided on the back of the sensor housing as a cable drilling guide. The drilled hole must be no more than ³⁄64" (1
mm) larger than the cable diameter and sealed with waterproof adhesive and sealant. Ensure no foreign material or debris is left in
the sensor housing after drilling.
6. Apply the stick-on rubber gasket behind the sensor housing. Use an adhesive and sealant to seal the cable entry, and on the rear of
the housing when the sensor housing is attached to a rough or irregular surface.
Additional notes for FSS1-S (conduit) model
• Use care when installing an existing or new conduit into the sensor housing and ensure the threaded conduit does not extend beyond
the inner wall of the sensor housing. For existing conduit, it may be necessary to slightly lower the conduit to suit the FSS1-S conduit
entry.
• To change handing remove the cover hex screws and slide the circuit board out of the housing. Reinstall the circuit board into the
opposite slots.
• A ¹⁄2" NPT conduit fitting is required on the conduit fitting.
