CHARGING A LEAD-ACID BATTERY
• First make sure your lead-acid or calcium battery is a 12 V battery. Do not charge batteries with different operating
voltages!
• Disconnect all loads from the battery.
• If the battery is installed in a vehicle, turn off the ignition and any other loads.
• Position the battery charger as far away as possible from the battery (as much as the cable of the
battery charger allows). Never position the battery charger on or near the battery!
• Never operate the device immediately after it has been taken from a cold to a warm room. The
condensation generated can cause malfunctions and there is also the risk of a deadly electric shock!
Allow the battery charger (and the battery) to reach room temperature before connecting it to the
power supply to operate it. This may take several hours!
Notes on rechargeable batteries
• The product is only suitable for charging 12-V lead-acid batteries or 12-V calcium batteries. Never
use it to charge different rechargeable batteries (e.g. NiCd, NiMH, LiPo) or even normal batteries!
There is a risk of fire and explosion!
• Make sure you observe all safety instructions and charging instructions of the battery manufacturer. If
the battery is fillable, observe the instructions provided by the battery manufacturer.
• For safety reasons, wear suitable protective clothes and protective glasses when handling batteries.
• Depending on the battery's mounting position, you might have to remove the battery before charging
it.
• Before connecting the battery to the battery charger, disconnect the battery from any loads or cables
(turn off the loads first!). Always disconnect the ground connection from the battery before
disconnecting the positive terminal.
Disconnect the battery from the battery charger before connecting any loads to the battery.
When connecting or disconnecting the battery, sparks might be produced. Therefore, make sure
there is sufficient ventilation!
• Observe the polarity when connecting the battery to the battery charger (red charger terminal =
positive/+, black charger terminal = negative/-).
• Never charge batteries with an internal short-circuit.
• Never charge frozen batteries. If the electrolyte is frozen, allow the battery to thaw completely in a
warm room before charging it. This may take several hours, depending on the battery.
• Batteries contain aggressive and corrosive acids. Avoid contact of battery fluids with skin or eyes!
Never dismantle rechargeable batteries! On skin contact, clean the affected areas thoroughly with
water and soap. On eye contact, rinse the effected eye immediately with clear and cold running
water! Then consult a doctor immediately!
If your clothes have come into contact with acid, wash your clothes immediately with a lot of water
and soap!
• Never wear rings, necklaces, watches or similar when handling batteries or battery chargers. A short-
circuit of the two battery terminals pose a risk of fire and explosion!
• Batteries must not be short-circuited or thrown into fire. Risk of fire and explosion!
simultaneously)
Observe the instructions and safety information of the vehicle to find out how the vehicle battery
should be charged. Modern vehicles are equipped with sensitive electronic parts and controls
that can be damaged if you do not proceed properly!
We recommend disconnecting both battery terminals from the vehicle. First disconnect the ground
connection (negative/-) from the battery. Then disconnect the positive terminal (+). Please note that the
radio or the on-board computer in your vehicle might lose data during this process.
