INSTALLATION - FIG. 1
Installation instructions for manual trailer couplings LUPO/1, LUPO/2,
LUPETTO/2 and LUPETTO/3.
Read these instructions carefully before any operation
The couplings of series Lupo can be mounted on drawbeams from 10 to
35 mm thickness.
1) Remove nut (10) and washer (23) if present.
2) Remove from tie-rod (24a) rear flange (9), rear silent block (19b) and rear
coupling flange with pegs (22).
3) Insert tie-rod (24a) into central drawbeam hole making sure that pegs of
front coupling flange (22) meet drawbeam holes.
4) Mount rear coupling flange with pegs (22) making sure that pegs meet
drawbeam holes. Mount rear silent block (19b), rear flange (9) and
washer (23) if present.
5) Lubricate thread of tie-rod (24a), tighten nut (10) by hand alining coupling
parallel to road level.
6) Tighten nut (10) with a torque wrench to following locking torque:
LUPO 1
M = 500-611 Nm
LUPO 2
M = 500-611 Nm
LUPETTO 2
M = 500-611 Nm
LUPETTO 3
M = 350-430 Nm
NOTE: there are three split-pin holes in the tie-rod (24a), which allow
mounting of the coupling on drawbeams of different thicknesses. It is
possible to reach the maximum locking torque in order to insert the split
pin into the first available hole.
7) Fit split-pin (14) and protection hood (2)
ATTENTION: to avoid problems installation has to be performed by
skilled staff.
Installation instructions for manual trailer couplings LUPO T45.
Read these instructions carefully before any operation.
The couplings of series Lupo can be mounted on drawbeams from 10 to
35 mm thickness.
1) Remove nut (10) and washer (23) if present.
2) Remove from tie-rod (24a) rear flange (9), rear silent block (19b), rear
coupling flange with threaded holes (34) and front coupling flange (35).
3) Mount rear coupling flange with threaded holes (34) on inner side of
drawbeam and mount front coupling flange (35) on outer side of
drawbeam. Fix both coupling flanges by means of 4 screws M16 (20)
tightening them to locking torque 150 – 180 Nm.
4) Insert tie-rod (24a) into central drawbeam hole making sure that front
silent block is correctly positioned.
5) Mount rear silent block (19b) making sure that it is correctly positioned,
then mount rear flange (9) and washer (23) if present.
6) Lubricate thread of tie-rod (24a), tighten nut (10) by hand alining coupling
parallel to road level.
7) Tighten nut (10) with a torque wrench to following locking torque:
LUPO T45
M = 500-611 Nm
NOTE: there are three split-pin holes in the tie-rod (24a), which allow
mounting of the coupling on drawbeams of different thicknesses. It is
possible to reach the maximum locking torque in order to insert the split
pin into the first available hole.
8) Fit split-pin (14) and protection hood (2)
ATTENTION: to avoid problems installation has to be performed by
skilled staff.
OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS - FIG. 2
COUPLING
Before coupling operation check that brake of trailer is on and that front
axle is free to steer. Make sure that drawbar eye and coupling are on the
same level.
1) Open security device (15) by pulling security knob outwards and by
turning it. Coupling pin (16) can now be lifted. Fig. 2, pos.A. Lift coupling
pin (16) as far as it will go. Fig. 2, pos.B
2) Reverse slowly towing vehicle till drawbar eye is in bell-mouth and let
coupling pin (16) down by hand. Fig. 2, pos. C.
Make sure that security system (15) is perfectly engaged and impedes
accidental lifting of coupling pin (16).
UNCOUPLING
Make sure that brake of trailer is on, then follow point 1 of coupling
instructions. Move towing vehicle forward and close coupling manually.
NOTE: to ensure secure and efficient functioning check that during
coupling and uncoupling operation the drawbar eye is not more than 3
degrees higher or lower than horizontal axis of the coupling.
MAINTENANCE - FIG. 3
All moving parts of coupling are subject to wear. Extent of wear depends
on working conditions and on maintenance carried out.
After the first 3000 Km
1) Check tightness of nut (10) to be as indicated here below:
LUPO 1
M = 500-611 Nm
LUPO T45
M = 500-611 Nm
LUPO 2
M = 500-611 Nm
LUPETTO 2
M = 500-611 Nm
LUPETTO 3
M = 350-430 Nm
Max. locking torque 800 Nm
Max. locking torque 800 Nm
Max. locking torque 800 Nm
Max. locking torque 600 Nm
Max. locking torque 800 Nm
Max. locking torque 800 Nm
Max. locking torque 800 Nm
Max. locking torque 800 Nm
Max. locking torque 800 Nm
Max. locking torque 600 Nm
After every 15000 Km
1) Check tightness of nut (10) to be as indicated in point 1.
2) Grab coupling as shown in fig.3, pos. D, and shake it hard to make sure
that there is no vertical or horizontal clearance.
3) Lubricate pivot pin (4) through grease nipple.
4) Lubricate all moving parts of security system (15)
Routine maintenance
At least once a year and depending on its use the coupling has to be
checked by skilled staff as follows:
1) Remove protection hood (2), split pin (14) and nut (10). Check condition
of nut (10) thread and tie-rod (24a) thread. See Fig. 3, pos. E. In case of
wear or clearance substitute the parts.
2) Check that there is not more than 1 mm clearance between coupling pin
(16) and bell mouth (17) holes.
3) Check that wear of coupling pin (16) is within the limit (value A in fig.3,
pos. F).
4) For Lupo T45 check that locking torque of screws (20), fig. 3 pos. G, of
coupling flanges (34/35) is M = 150–180 Nm.
5) Check that there is not more than 1 mm clearance between pivot pin (4)
and its holes in bell-mouth (17). Check also that the clearance between
pivot pin (4) and tie-rod bush (24a) is not more than 1 mm.
6) Check that there is not more than 2 mm transversal clearance between
bell-mouth (17) and tie-rod (24a).
REPAIRING - FIG. 4
ATTENTION: every time nut (10) is removed, screwed and/or
unscrewed it is necessary to substitute split pin (14).
1) Substitution of silent blocks and support pad
a) Remove protection hood (2), split pin (14), nut (10) and washer (23) if
provided.
b) Remove rear flange (9), rear silent block (19b) and rear coupling flange
with pegs (22).
c) Remove coupling, then remove worn front silent block (19a) and support
pad (8).
d) Substitute worn silent blocks and reassemble components in following
order: support pad (8), front flange (3), front silent block (19a) and front
coupling flange with pegs (22).
e) Mount coupling to vehicle following installation instructions. See fig. 1.
2) Substitution of coupling pin
a) Open security system (15) by pulling security knob outwards and by
turning it.

(16) about 50-60mm.
c) Remove coupling pin (16).
d) Lubricate new coupling pin with V.Orlandi grease.
e) Position new coupling pin (16) and verify functioning of anti-slide system
(13) and security system (15).
