RULES OF PLAY
The rules of play are very similar to volley-
ball rules. Jump ball, also called roundnet
or spikeball, is played in two teams of
2. The aim of the game is to play the
ball onto the net in such a way that the
opposing team cannot receive it and play
it back.
Key Rules
•
Once the ball has been served, all
players can move freely around the
net. There is no fi xed play area.
•
The opposing team may not be de-
liberately impeded or blocked while
moving around the net.
•
The ball may be played with any body
part, but not with two hands at the
same time!
•
The ball may not be caught, lifted,
guided or thrown.
•
Each team may touch the ball no
more than three times per attack. The
ball must be played onto the net at
the latest with the third contact with
the ball.
•
The ball must be played alternately
by the players on a team. One player
may not touch the ball twice in suc-
cession.
•
A serve or attack is only valid if the
ball bounces up from the net (Pic-
ture C).

Serving
•
The players stand in a square around
the net, with the teams standing op-
posite one another (Picture D).
•
The player who is opposite the server
must receive the ball.
•
All players with the exception of
the receiver must stand 1.8 metres
away from the middle of the net. The
receiver can be as close to the net as
they wish.
•
During a serve, the ball must fi rst be
thrown at least 5 cm up into the air
before it can be hit onto the net. The
server must also keep one foot on the
ground.
•
If the serving team makes a mistake,
the opposing team gets a point and
the right to serve.
Please Note! If the server makes a
mistake while serving, they may re-
peat the serve. If they make a second
mistake in a row, the opposing team
gets a point and the right to serve.
Exchanging Ball and Serve
•
The serving team is initially the
attacking team. As soon as the ball
touches the net, the players of the
serving team become defenders and
the opposing team become attackers.
The role of the teams changes each
time the ball touches the net.
•
When the serving team wins a point,
the players change their positions
so that the other opposing player
becomes the receiver.
•
The order of the servers is agreed
before the game. The player changes
each time that the right to serve is
exchanged until all four have had one
turn. The fi rst server then has another
go.
