McPHAIL and TMA for Mediterranean fruit flies
( Ceratitis capitata )
TMA is a synthetic solution based in amines which acts as a
feed attractant of fruit flies, especially for the females ( f. e.
of Medfly; Ceratitis capitata )
Application
• Cut one corner of the bag containing TMA- Lure.
• Put the bag into a common McPHAIL trap.
• Fill the trap with 200 ml of water and put some
spreader ( e. g. liquid soap ) into the water.
• Hang the traps in the sunny part of the tree at a
height of 1.5 m.
• Density:
– monitoring: 1 trap per hectare
– mass trapping: 30 – 50 traps per hectare(depending
on pest pressure) with 15 mdistance between each
trap.
TMA has duration of about 90 days ( depending on wea-
ther conditions ). After this period, replace the TMA- Lure.
Storage
It is recommended to keep at room temperature in a dry
place. Do not freeze.
Safety measures
Ingestion is dangerous. Keep away from children and inex-
perienced people. Wash the surface exposed with abun-
dant amount of water.
