PRECAUTIONS
• This splint is to be fitted initially by a
healthcare professional who is familiar
with the purpose for which it is prescribed.
The healthcare professional is responsible
for providing wearing instructions
and precautions to other healthcare
practitioners, care providers involved in the
patient's care, and the patient.
• If unusual swelling, skin discoloration
or discomfort occurs, use should be
discontinued and a healthcare professional
consulted.
• Be careful that the straps are not so tight
that they interfere with circulation.
• This product has components that contain
natural rubber latex, which may cause
allergic reactions in some individuals.
• After heating splinting material, always
check its temperature before applying it to
the patient.
• When cutting metal end, hold or cover
piece to be removed to prevent it from
flying.
CARE AND CLEANING
• The splint will lose its shape in temperatures
over 135°F (57°C). It should be kept away
from sources of heat such as ovens, hot
water, open flames, and sunny car windows.

• The splint can be cleaned with soap and
lukewarm water. The straps can be washed
with soap and water, but the adhesive portion
should not be moistened. The splint and
straps should be allowed to dry thoroughly
before reapplication of the splint.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
1. Loosen black hex screws on rod adjuster (A)
and slide outrigger distally. Put splint onto
extremity and evaluate fit.
2. If modifications are necessary, they should be
made before attaching Plastazote
modify splint, which is made from
Polyform
splinting material, spot-heat it
®
with a heat gun or in a heat pan of water at a
temperature of 150° to 160°F (65°–70°C) until
pliable. Heating entire splint may cause it to
lose its preformed shape. Do not heat splint
where outrigger and straps are attached.
3. Remove backing from self-adhesive strips
on foam lining and attach lining to interior of
splint.
4. Attach D-ring straps to forearm portion of
splint and thread through strap pads.
5. Attach rubber bands to finger loops and then
to white tabs on outrigger (B).
6. With splint on extremity, place finger loops
onto proximal phalanx of fingers.
7. Adjust position of outrigger to achieve a
90° angle of pull. Angle of outrigger can be
adjusted by loosening silver hex screw in
center of rod adjusters (C).
8. Remove splint from patient and secure all set
screws.
9. Using heavy-duty wire snips, cut off proximal
end of outrigger. It should extend at least

10. For thumb extension or to apply a force
couple following MCP arthroplasty, attach a
rubber band or graded spring to finger loop
and slip free end of rubber band or spring
over curled end of extender rod.
11. Insert straight end of extender rod into empty
hole in rod adjuster on radial side of splint
and bend rod to provide appropriate angle of
pull. To secure rod, tighten black hex screw.
